video problem! help!

okay so i was playin q2 early in the day it was playing great , then i left came back my nefu was on pc i noticed my speaker was nocked down and shit everything still okay , i open up quake 2 and i cannot maximize the freaken window , its a small square in the middle with pitch black all around it and the game will not go to full screen ( not even with the +) so its not that , im thinkin its either something with  my video card plz help . what did work was using 1680x1050 but i always have it set to 800 resolution ;/ with no problems , now 800x wont work , i have windows vista 32 bit , r1gl , ati radeon 2400hd been playin at 800x resolution for 5 months or so

it was my monitor setting's were messed with , my hd screen has manual way to adjust and a software way , it is possible they tried to mess with it manually and just messed up how quake functions
