Ran across this on youtube...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvQ-3uVX63c
Although I have a couple Portishead albums, I've never researched the band members much, or how they make their albums. I kind of assumed it was Beth and a couple people in the studio, pasting together various samples in ProTools. I didn't figure there was much live playing involved.
But I was surprised to see this live version ("Strangers" from the 1994 album Dummy), with individuals on drums, guitar, bass, and performers handling each synth and DJ part separately, plus the orchestra.
It came out sounding remarkably like the album version, like, different but reassembled back into a coherent whole. I wish they's shown more of the drummer, it's not complex drumming but he's paradoxically throwing down and finnessing a monsterous groove.
Fun stuff

I have a portishead album, but I don't listen to it much. IMO, I like morcheeba a lot better.

One of my favorite Portishead songs. The studio version has a lot more punch though. I also like Sour Times.
An under-rated group...

Being one of the most recognizable live performances, I don't think that this should go without a mention:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QixiyZ_zrm0
I've heard it so many times that I kind of deaden out the fact that it's live and is not the original version.

Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack. See, not everything in the 70's sucked. But Ann Wilson sucked down many a cheeseburger since them days. THAT'S A HUGE BITCH!
THAT'S A HUGE BITCH!
Back then, both of the Wilson sisters were hot. I'd love to be the meat in that sandwich.

Old and decrepit but his band mates wow the shit outta you wherever ole Oz might be slacking. Zakk is probably one of the last of the great guitar gods. I remember seeing both Ozzy and Zakk on the old No More Tears tour, and it was probably one of the best shows I ever saw and heard in my life and WILL EVER SEE, but Zakk's actually gotten BETTER since then. Would've been awesome to see this particular night in person.

Never heard of her till this song hit the radio in the area.
Kinda catchy, and the live version recorded here wasn't to bad.

Studio version has more subtle things going on that add to the catchyness.

Kinda pisses me off. Maybe if someone would've CHECKED A FUCKING GAS GAUGE BEFORE LEAVING IN OCTOBER 77, we wouldn't have to listen Johnny Van Zant ruining all his older brothers songs now.

Some early Slayer. The video says it's from 1985, but that may not be accurate. Looks more like it's from 84 around the time Haunting The Chapel was released.

Slayer doing a kick-ass high-quality live studio performance from AOL Sessions late last year.
Dave Lombardo sounds like SHIT on a few parts in Raining Blood. Everyone else sounds great though. I still say they should've kept Paul Bostaph on drums.

A couple of songs from Skynyrd performing on the Old Grey Whistle. No, that's not Jesus Christ playing the drums, that's Artimus Pyle.
