First this was in the context of creationism, and now it's in the context of building a pipeline. You need to make up your mind.

As for the quote from metal, you two are putting words in my mouth, at the same time that you are minsing your own. It was clear that you were taking stabs at Christianity in general, and then only later back pedaled to explain it away as a creation vs. evolution debate. I'm making no effort to deny you of your opinion. Only pointing out that harsh words derived from a predjudice of someone's religion are inappropriate. You have as much right to make those harsh comments as I have to point them out. I'm asking noone to stop talking, and I've also not denied anyone's right to believe or say whatever they want.

An example of a civil conversation about religion:
Person 1: Palin is pentacostal
Person 2: I disagree with that denomination based on their thoughts on "fruits of the spirit."

An example of a civil conversation about Creationism vs. Evolution:
Person 1: I don't believe in Creationism, I think that Evolution happened. Here is reason A, B and C.
Person 2: I disagree here is reason D, E and F

An example of the conversation that happened here:
Person 1: I won't vote for her, she's a creationist
Person 2: They belong on the short bus. I knew one of them once. Weirdo's all of them.
Person 3: "She holds onto the truth"? I think she's crazy.
Person 4: Myths and Lies!

This is all before I entered it, which is why I called it childish. I'm not a PC person. I think that being PC is one of the largest ruining factors in our society. However, there was a time when people used a specific amount of respect when refering to another person's religion. That is currently absent here. So then I have to ask Quadz and Metal how an expectation of respect ammounts to being anti-first amendmant.

Once again I think it was all summed up well by saying this:

Oh shut the hell up peewee.  You're way off base, and seemlingly in a panic because you've been backed into a metaphorical corner by logic you cannot counter.  My words were NOT harsh.  You obviously place too high a value on stupid forum icons.  Like I said, a number of my best friends growing up were Pentecostal.  This has already been addressed, maybe you should read this thread again (or maybe a science book).

That's just not true.  I'm not sure on what basis you claim to have read my mind.  I'm not sure it makes sense for me to take stabs at "Christianity in general", although I'd be happy to try.  The difficulty is if we zoom out that far, given my disagreements are cenetered on faith-based vs. evidence-based belief, there becomes little difference to me between any of the Abrahamic monotheisms.  (Or any other religion, really.)

So my inclination is to challenge specific ideas.  As has been stated earlier in this thread, there is precious little agreement among Christian denominations let alone individuals as to which parts of the bible they take literally.  One of the first things I would wonder about a particular individual who professed to be of the Christian faith, is what role science plays alongside their faith.  Does this person, for example, believe the earth is less than 10,000 years old?  Does he or she believe in miracles such as the virgin birth or the resurrection?  Does he or she accept the evidence for evolution by natural selection?  Does he or she believe it was necessary for a supernatural designer to have intervened anytime in the past 15 billion years since the big bang?  etc.

When it is not practical or feasible to ask specific questions of an individual, we can at least start with the precepts held by whichever denomination the individual is associated with.  If one claims to be Catholic, one can anticipate a belief in X or Y, if one claims to be Pentecostal, one might anticipate a belief in Y or Z. etc.

My memory of what I was thinking at the time I made the "" post is clear.

I was thinking, oh the irony that of all the people who would exhort the dubious virtue of clinging doggedly to a truth, it would be the Pentecostals.

Two points to add to the DaHanG/PeeWee/Quadz tangle:

1. About the word MYTH: My philosophy/religion professor studied briefly with the late Joseph Campbell whom many know elevated and illuminated the word "myth." A sticker in my professor's office read "Myths never happened; they're always happening." The point here (as Campbell has thoroughly researched) is that throughout history cultures develop remarkably similar "stories" or "myths" to explain ultimate concerns -- viz., origins of life, death and justice. The word unfortunately now denotes falsehood and links to the root word of mythology, a worldview that conjures up deities squabbling with one another, mortals making sense of it all and fighting fantastic creatures! Just a bland, un-nuanced shallow word now.

p.s. I believe that reading Campbell helps unify people on a deeper level. For the un-initiated, here's some nerd bait: Lucas consulted Campbell when writing his script for Star Wars to help formulate the plot themes(The Son becoming the Hero to confront the Father, Light/Dark Forces, etc.)

2. Here's a great quote/question from Colorado Confidential reporter Dan Whipple posed to anyone that believed the central implication of the Ben Stein film Expelled but could easily apply to anybody who believes Intelligent Design aka Creationism:
