Taking the bike on a 10 day roadtrip. Leaving in about a week. I'll be moving along each day, hopefully averaging 300-400 miles a day, and plan on camping at state/national parks when the weather permits, otherwise moteling it. Here's a rough estimate of my route. Any points of interest along this path that y'all can think of ?

In Colorado, near Colorado Springs you have the drive up Pike's Peak to about 13k feet and Garden of the Gods. Both free and beautiful. I have heard there is a great mountain pass near Durango where you ride for quite a while near a cliff with a great wooded view... but that might be a four wheel route.

In NM, at four corners, I think Carlsbad Caverns is near. It is a huge cave which you can tour in a couple hours.

In Utah, Bryce Canyon is a great view.

In AZ, why not hit the Grand Canyon?

Thanks Def, pike's peak sounds good ... is the route paved ? I'll be traveling hwy 550 between durango and ridgeway at least, about a million curves in 50 miles or so. Monarch and wolfcreek passes are on my agenda also.

I've been to four corners, very desolate there. Been to Carlsbad also, think it's in southern NM, not close to the route.

I'll probably make the North rim of the Grand Canyon by noon the second day unless my route changes. If I arrive there later, it'll be a nights stay.

Utah is my biggest unknown. According to the map, bryce canyon, zion, white/dark, and capitol reef national parks are on or close to my route. Never been to utah except on last years ride, but just clipped the northeast corner through Vernal. I'm looking forward to it.

In the next couple years, I'm just gonna take off a whole month and ride till it's time to come back home. Lotta places I want to go.

denver heh ! i hear that the city's elavation is pretty damn high with thinner air.

Denvers elevation is around 5k, and I'll be steering clear of big cities and interstates. Crowded areas (metro) and boring roads don't interest me in the least. I plan to try and stay in in the 7-12k elevations if the weather lets me.

if you can take a sidetrip santa fe is always nice, tho youve prolly already been there

i would love to jog there, since the air is thinner, and it gets you used to the thinness

It is paved and unpaved. I felt the quality of the road was good. Perhaps some research is in order.

haha cadillac ranch. I might swing through amarillo for that.
SantaFe is a possibility although I'm really trying to avoid metro areas unless an emergency directs me there. I may be wrong, but cities to me are like, you've seen one, you've seen'm all.

So far my possible destinations include
Raton, NM
Taos, NM
Navajo Lake State Park, NM <---- night two camp
Grand Canyon National Park, AZ <--- possible night three camp
Zion National Park, UT
Bryce Canyon National Park, UT
Capitol Reef National Park, UT
White Canyon, UT
San Juan National Forest, CO
Rocky Mountain National Park, CO

Also, If anyone knows some good campgrounds along this route, speak !

art! sounds like a really awesome trip you've got ahead of you, I'm so envious!! Unfortunately I have real spotty knowledge of the areas you're going through, so I can't help you out there... but in the quake 2 spirit...

white sands is cool to see.
if your near Pikes Peak then you are near Colorado springs which is near the Royal Gourge which is bad ass!
driving from colorado springs to aspen was neat in a car. driving back was terrifying. (going back you are in the outside lane

)

Southeast Utah there is a place called Monument Valley, let me find a pic. Pictures are pretty big probably. This is a place I've always wanted to go, and don't these roads look so inviting? =) I love the Western US, so expansive and rugged. Just Google "Monument Valley" for more pics.
