how do i buy ram
« on: August 11, 2008, 10:39:11 AM »
ok my pc uses this - # Installed: 3072 MB DDR2, 667 MHz, (PC2-5300) dual channel memory (two 1024 MB and two 512 MB modules)
# Expandable to: 4 GB (4 DDR2 DIMM slots)

basically i wanna know if i have to find ram based on the pc2-5300 (does that matter or is it just a model number of the brand)

i was told i could just find ram based on 667 mhz ddr2 dual channel memory ( and that pc2-5300 is only a model of the brand)

i havnet installed ram in 7 years so plz dont make fun of me heheheheheh

here is my mother board incase any of u tech pros wants to research it.

So you're trying to get up to 4GB and you currently have 3GB installed?

What OS do you run?

If you run a 32-bit Windows you won't be able to exceed 3.5 GB and hit your 4 GB goal. You need to run a 64-bit OS to exceed 3.5 GBs of memory.

i was told i could just find ram based on 667 mhz ddr2 dual channel memory ( and that pc2-5300 is only a model of the brand)

If I'm not mistaken I believe the chipset of your mother board supports DDR2 800 (PC2-6400)...

I am going to guess and say this board is very similar if not exact to the board in your Gateway - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157125

You motherboard supports 4 GB but not the OS. So if you get a 64-bit OS you have that option to get to 4 GB of memory.

should i stick to 667 to be on the safe side or should i go 800 mhz?

I'm not 100% sure so stick with what you have. If it's confirmed, yeah upgrade.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
