..guess what? for the past two weeks my ping has been back down to around 56ms and my results have improved!

 I checked the route and we still have the laggy routers over at theplanet.com but it seems that Time Warner Cable has improved their end due to some recent node splitting work they did in my area recently:

Looks like a fair amount of congestion between RoadRunner and ThePlanet's peer routers at hop 7. This will have to be corrected by the respective engineering teams where they interface unless you can route around it somehow. Most ISP's ignore source routing unless it is their own QoS at work. Rather high pings within The Planet's network as well. I'm a little surprised at that.

That is weird. I'm in Prince Edward Island. My route to tastyspleen routes through Boston, then NY, before reaching the servers in Texas.

I too have had a ping change, this is complete bullshit! It used to be 36-37ms, it is now 38 or 39ms, sometimes spiking to 40... unacceptable.

As ridiculous as I'm pretty sure you were trying to make that sound,...

When I started playing at TS, my ping was always at 39. Then with the server upgrades and such, it jumped up about 10 or 20 milliseconds for about a month. Then shit got straightened out and it went back to 39. Then for some weird reason a few months back, it dropped to an average of 32. The past week or two or three, it's bounced up to around 36.

Now I'm not complaining about anything, anything below 40 is totally doable. But honestly, I can tell a difference when my ping changes from what I'm recently used to, even if its just a few milliseconds. For those who would claim that ping really doesn't mean jack shit, you're full of it. Every last millisecond counts, especially when using a weapon that requires some real accuracy like a railgun. Even though my ping in pretty low at 35, I still have to aim a good ways ahead of where someone appears on my screen in order to land the shot. If someone is strafing to the left and I time the shot to where it fires dead-on on their player model, more often than not, I don't end up hitting them. The closer to 0 your ping is, the less you have to aim ahead of someone and the less you have to predict where they will be in conjunction with where your shot will go.

Focalor, you do know that in q2 railgun shot is delayed right? That's why you need to aim a bit ahead of a player, even when your ping would be 0.
