Looking for a laptop....

Okay...need a laptop and don't want to fall into the Dell toilet,so what can you guys recommend in customizable laptops? I want to maximize the RAM and anything modern will be powerful enough for my purposes,which will be Photoshopping and DVD watching,and good graphics too! Lets hear some recommendations,puh-leeze! :)

my wife has a $700 acer that does graphics editing & playing DVD's just fine.

with those requirements anything will work.  I'd just recommend a duel core.

I don't know, but from my experience they're by far the best laptops ever made, and I know a lot of people who agree with me.  Around 5 years ago was when they got really good.

Thinkpads always been my pick for laptops... then again I never wanted a laptop for gaming (graphics) and that's where they can lack.

I was going to respond to this by saying I bought an HP and am very happy with it. But you beat me to it. I have the 17" display as well. Specs are fine to do all modern tasks. I have also noticed that its constructed pretty well. Very solid and no weirdness with ports, display, or anything really. Price was around a grand.
