there's pluses and minuses to everything.  yeah I think most of the time, 4 judges would make a better decision than the jury - most of the time assuming you have the right judges.  because four people's unique biases can influence so much, personally I would prefer a jury.  this is more of a "what the people think goes" philosphy, the same type of philosphies that contribute to america's success.  and as much as i don't like many things about this country, we do dominate the world.

It's just amazing how many people look for reasons to sue people and businesses these days even when they are the ones at fault. What's more is how 9 times out of 10 they actually succeed in doing it no matter how bogus the claim or what the circumstances involve

you have a party now, and now you're responsible for other people, interesting; i think it blows.  - personal responsibility -
let's encourage people who throw parties to be somewhat responsible, but not hold them accountable for other people's actions.  this goes for just about everything.

The most recent example was 2000 so "these days" isn't an entirely accurate description.

Most of the time these actually get thrown out. You'll never hear about those ones which is why 99 times out of 100 only the rediculous lawsuits that succeed get reported.

The most recent example was 2000 so "these days" isn't an entirely accurate description.

The reason the most recent is 2000 is that I had those examples in a text file from 2000. I'm sure the buffoonery has continued after that date.

My point is that simple common sense has not prevailed here. And this is big bucks - not chump change.  Add to the fact that many litigation lawyers will not charge their "client" a fee but will take a chunk of the judgement. If you had to pay lawyer fees as you go along you would think twice. A complete perversion of the justice system. Anywhere else in the world and you would be laughed out of court - or never see the inside of a courtroom.
Don't forget we all pay for this in our house and car insurance bills.

There are things as of late that piss me off so bad, I almost want to go to law school to be able to try them. I am no stranger to the civil system, sued, been sued, foreman of jury, witness of arbitration, member of a class action lawsuit...so much experience decided to get a law related degree as a Paralegal.  My latest pet peeve, is our fax machine at work, receiving advertisements, anywhere from pharmaceuticals to vacations to the Bahamas. I would like to sue all the solicitors, who use the solicitee's money, (cost of paper, toner, and hourly wage spent calling "remove fax number from data base" line), to essentially pay for the solicitor's advertising costs. And with all of the buzz going around about cell phone companies turning over their client's phone number's for similar purposes, this idea would tie into that.
