first off there's no need to torture animals, other than for fun, and anyone who tortures things for fun has some serious issues.  to me eletrocuting a dog (which feel pain) for fun, is wrong, and very wrong.  so there should be consequences to this.  it isn't like squashing a bug, he knows people have dogs as pets, and he's not hitting a dog with his car and driving away, he's purposefully torturing them.

i don't think sending people to jail is the right thing to do when they make a mistake, not that anything shouldn't be done, but this guy doesn't even feel he's made a mistake, imo.  maybe certain "mistakes" like murder, you have to send someone to jail, but i see no point of sending someone to jail if they hit someone while driving drunk.

first, you don't even know if they would have hit them anyway, and secondly it's not exactly intentional.  although tortuing dogs for sport seems pretty intentional, and he's had a chance to admit he was wrong, and make up for it, it doesn't seem like he truly beleives he's done wrong.

a person used to be considered property, just because you can consider a dog property means it's okay to electrecute it, this is ok?

I don't see how it is worse to kill something that can feel pain, than it is to kill something that can't, because either way you're taking a life that wasn't yours to take and "pain" is relatively meaningless in the face of death.

I'm not speaking for reaper here but since I mentioned mammalian nervous systems in an earlier post...

Since I'm not a vegetarian, I can't condemn killing animals.

However, I think it's apparent that most animals feel pain about as acutely as we do.  As such, I definitely DO NOT think animals should be tortured.

Torturing an animal seems to me categorically similar to torturing a severely retarded person, or a human infant.  My understanding is that the pain that would be felt, in all of these cases, would be equally real.

(. . . That said, it would seem a lot of laboratory testing done on animals is tantamout to torture... and I don't have a solution for that.  )
