New DM1-8 Server

Yeah, maps full of teleports I find annoying, too easy for people to pussy out of a fight =)

I've always thought it would be cool for the top 3 fraggers, or at least the #1 fragger NOT to be able to pickup the quad.  That would prevent quad-whoring, which I guess most people don't like?  I don't mind quad at all if it's a newb that uses it, and actually "needs" it to compensate for a lack of skills.  But if it's someone that can kick my butt anyway, or at least hang quite well with me, it's annoying for me to see them whoring the quad everytime it respawns, since the only way for me to compete then, is to do the same, and get it before they do, which I don't find fun at all.  I like to be more random with the map, and run to where the action is, and duke it out spontaneously.  The whole scripted playstyle, ala going back to quad everytime it spawns, is boring to me, and too repetitive.

So if there was a way for there to be some sort of check, to see if the person attempting to pick up the quad was in the top 3 frag positions, they wouldn't be able to get it.  Also, perhaps the quad wouldn't spawn for the first 30-60 seconds of the map, so someone didn't get it instantly [though this would be annoying for some on dm3, where they love to get the invuln, then the quad, and go on a rampage =)]

Quad makes things too easy too, it's easy enough to chainwhore someone without it, but with it, it just over-simplifies things, and I think does less to improve my game than otherwise.  And yes, I know "fun" is to be considered too =) But I have the most fun when I'm playing good, though I like to goof off here and there as well =)

That is a fantastic idea.  The best i have heard for living with the quad on a server.

i dont think it would be possible to code for the server.  i think it would be possible to code a mod for a game like that.  But i dont know what console knows, so who knows.  But that is such a great idea, that if i knew how to code and make a mod, i would do just that.

I like the mod where the leader glows (not quad), it helps everyone focus their energy on them.

Personally, I like having the quad.  But, I understand that someone might think it is weaker style to use it (same as using BFG).

Yes, i have played with that.  Leader glows green like at LOF-Gumby's.  That would work in a similar manner to focus attention to the leader.  Wouldnt stop him from using the quad, but it might slow him down in getting it.  Unless it is naymlis, he is just tough to stop under any circumstance.

really, to have some kind of quad lotto would be real unique, keep the game fun and different, keep the quad haters happy, and perhaps set the dm server apart from all other stock dm servers.

BFG damage values set to negative. Meaning, bfg damage gives health. I remember taking a direct hit from the bfg and my health was 300. Who needs the megahealth when you can bfg blast yourself.

I think it's great you guys are finally running a standard dm server, I just have a few suggestions.

1) Keep the original q2dm7 (no dm7mod)

Personally, i'd love to see a "kill lotto" where picking up any random power up or using any random gun during the play of one map every now and then (randomly) would make you kill yourself.  It would really force people out of thier regular play for a map and make them think.

Of course the fun would include not NAMING what the kill lotto item was.

It's pretty clear that many of us have different ideas about what should be added, modified, or taken away from the original deathmatch experience.

What if nothing was changed? That in itself would set it apart from other servers because you can hardly find an unmodified deathmatch server anymore. I think it would be really 'unique' if just one server could represent classic deathmatch, to give us that nostalgic and unforgiving experience of when we first started playing the game.

Anyways, I just thought I'd pass this idea along for consideration.

when I first started playing.. people didn't whine about using bfg, chain, powerups, spawn killing, chat fragging, ping, etc..

maybe we need a stfu command.. so when people start whining, or spamming shit we can say "stfu [BTF]Gator" and then he's muted
