Hi there, what can I do to improve my moves, I mean, I been playing Quake 2 for a long time and I cannot undertand why some players jump and move very fast. Does this have to do with the ping number? or with a better computer?

the way your config is set up for your particular client, and movement technique is all it is.

i recommend r1q2/r1gl found at www.r1ch.net.  i use a cl_maxfps of 126 and can get good speed, climb up crates, and jump very high off of ledges.

It also comes down to technique.  Easiest to learn that on a tourney server so you can spectate someone from the "in eyes" view to get a good idea what they are doing with the mouse.

im not at all good at describing movement techniques, but i can move ok.  My jumping is horrendous, so im no help there at all.

Hopefully people can chime in.  i'd suggest you use the "goto trainer" server to conduct your testing for speed, movement, and jumps.  If you see someone doing something you want to replicate, ask them nicely.  Chances are they may take the time to train or help you.

Ping shouldnt affect movement much, not if it is stable.  Your client affects your movement more then the server.

Thank you so much for your answers, I'll check out those links you just posted. Also, I remember that I used to play in a server in Houston, I don't remember the IP addr. But I played a guy that he could see me through the walls, I believe that because he always fragged me with the rail gun, after before I came in from a corner. Was that player a bot or something??

corner shots are just part of the game anymore.  It is just sound/footstep prediction shots, and you will see it all the time on the servers.  They arent cheaters, they are just practiced people.

If you are coming back to the game after being gone for a while, you will find the average skill level has raised quite a bit.

The server settings dont allow most wallhacks to work anyways, certainly nothing you could download.  The servers are pretty protected from most all common cheats.
