Ummm... I intended the question to mean cumulative years... so for example, although I first played quake2 in 1998, I wouldn't say I've played for 9 years because there are several year-long gaps where I wasn't playing.  Does that make sense?

Hiya Crazed!!!  ggs on Mutant last night.  Nice to meet you.

I started playing q2 multi in February of '06, but I'm gonna round up to 2 yrs to figure in the non-multi-player time spent playing.

I was introduced to Q2 while working third shift at a hotel; they had the demo on the front desk computer. I enjoyed it so much (despite the lack of a sound card), that I decided to purchase the full game and play it while not getting paid for it.  But upon trying to get on the net via dial-up, the only thing I could do is chasecam, and that is like sitting there watching kids play on the playground while you're wearing a body cast unable to move; depressing.  Since I support myself, I had to wait patiently until high speed internet became affordable.  And now trying to catch up to you seasoned l33ts!!!

I'm rounding up to 10 years. It's probably morelike 9 years and 6 months. I'm not sure the exact date of the release of the Quake2 Demo which is when I started playing.

I have some maps that I made that are as old as the 3.2 update.

my first purchase was 3.17 i think?  i think it was decemer or so of '97, sound correct?  i was still hooked on quake and was slow to jump in on the new one beyond farting around with the demo.  i left the game alone between 2001 and 2003, i was burned out.

Quake2 has ruined me for life.  Few other games are anything but a fleeting distraction.  In general, it has set a bar of expectation so high, that every game seems to fail miserably.

how can you play a game for 9yrs and still not be very good at it?

Since the day it came out. Saved up my spending cash to have the guy who was renting out our basement suite purchase it for me. I even had him grab the display box that was 3x the size of the regular one.

I remember getting home and loading it onto my 166(non-mmx) w/ 16m SDram with a 2.1 gig HD and an ATI 4mb(?) vidcard. The blasted thing only ran in software @ 15fps/avg. I purchased the Voodoo3 in the summer and that's when my gaming addiction took off. I played every game under the sun on that rig until finally it couldn't keep up and games actually told me they wouldn't run. Ahhhh GTs...GTs

Hehe, lot of old timers here.  I estimate I'm around 5 years... the more I play the harder it is to get better!

I was under the impression that it was released in the "FALL" of 1997..
and it is still summer ATM..


we're close though.

I believe the game was released Dec 6th, 1997. which is pretty much 1998.
