I use a bind to toggle _windowed_mouse 1 to _windowed_mouse 0 It Makes it a lot easier to switch the sucker over - this is under Linux Xwindows tho - I naturally added it to the winders machine I play on sometimes so I never knew there was a thingie about it under winders...

yea duke...i made a toggle for this in linux but it only works in linux so then only way for art to use his mouse is to either
a) pull down the console
b) hit the key on the keyboard with a flag to bring up the start menu
c) i think the alt tab will do but it may minimize the whole thing altogether
som im not sure bout the last one
if i figure out another way art....you'll be the first to know

I think its amazing how from when I played doom years ago when it first came out I was thinking man I wish I could put my keys where I want them ....yet here I am playing with mostly the same keys as when I was playing Doom.... the directional arrows
.Ive gotton so used to these keys I don't think that I could do it any different.
The only difference is the freelook and the jumping...just a thought from the past

zoom bind

Hey...
This is coming a little late, but I came across this thread not too long ago and have been trying out the binds and did a little "binding" of my own that I'd like to share. It's a zoom bind for your mouse wheel that will zoom in and out incrementally, nice for those times when your target is a little closer than you would like for a really "deep" zoom...
bind mwheelup zoomin
bind mwheeldown zoomout
set fovnorm 105
set fovzoom 35
fov $fovnorm
set sensnorm 8
alias zoomin in1
alias zoomout zoomnorm
alias zoomnorm "fov $fovnorm; sensitivity $sensnorm; alias zoomin in1"
alias in1 "fov 65; sensitivity 5; alias zoomin in2; alias zoomout zoomnorm"
alias in2 "fov 45; sensitivity 3; alias zoomin in3; alias zoomout out1"
alias in3 "fov 35; sensitivity 2.5; alias zoomin in4; alias zoomout out2"
alias in4 "fov 25; sensitivity 1.5; alias zoomout out3"
alias out1 "fov 65; sensitivity 5; alias zoomout zoomnorm; alias zoomin in2"
alias out2 "fov 45; sensitivity 3; alias zoomout out1; alias zoomin in3"
alias out3 "fov 35; sensitivity 2.5; alias zoomout out2; alias zoomin in4"
I have four different settings but you can add as many as you like! Enjoy!

Yeah...go ahead and play with the zoom wilst I frag ya..haha...jkn
Im with MaJiKSluG>FAS> on this one....I do everything the old fashoned way. I used to use the arrow keys for movement until I got a new machine that didn't have a port for my Cobra 486 keyboard..hehe....Then I had to change all my binds to more like the default. I use:
s = straife left
d = backpedal
f = straife right
shift = jump
space = crouch
alt = screenshot
r = use rocketlauncher
g = use railgun
v = use chaingun
w = "Nice Gun!!! Thanks"
y = messagemode2
h = "HAHaHahaha"
x = "Kill!!! Kill!!! Kill!!!"
etc....
mouse1 = fire
mouse2 = run
mouse3 = weapon select
mousewheelup = invnext
mousewheeldown = invprev
hehe...so now the admin knows which buttons to disable to mess with me..hehe

Shadow,
There's actually no zoom function... You get the zoom effect from changing your fov (frame of view?) to something really small. With your frame of view so small (meaning you're looking at only a fraction of the normal view), the small picture fills to the size of your screen and you see things off in the distance as if they were closer. You just bind keys to change your fov and - ta daa! - you zoom in.
Kind of neat to play with and definitely helpful on maps with looongg views (like q2dm8), although you're pretty much oblivious to your immediate surroundings.
Anyone else with some cool binds?

Hehe.... just realized my bind is redundant... all the "out" aliases are the same as the corresponding "in" aliases...
Should be:
set fovnorm 105
set fovzoom 35
fov $fovnorm
set sensnorm 8
bind mwheelup zoomin
bind mwheeldown zoomout
alias zoomin in1
alias zoomout zoomnorm
alias zoomnorm "fov $fovnorm; sensitivity $sensnorm; alias zoomin in1"
alias in1 "fov 65; sensitivity 5; alias zoomin in2; alias zoomout zoomnorm"
alias in2 "fov 45; sensitivity 3; alias zoomin in3; alias zoomout in1"
alias in3 "fov 35; sensitivity 2.5; alias zoomin in4; alias zoomout in2"
alias in4 "fov 25; sensitivity 1.5; alias zoomout in3"
:wink: just making it neater...
Heya sTrAinA, come and play soon and keep us all on our toes!
