Quake 2 Tsunami Tech Random Map Generator...

Don't look that up in google. There was randomly a 2nd tsunami caused by a quake which helped test new tsunami prediction technology. You'll never get a real hit.



LOL anyway, anyone know where to find the Quake 2 random map generator? I want to host the download just to keep the file alive. All I know is that Tsunami Tech (which does not exist any more) made it.

I have a Quake 2 terrain generator somewhere on one of my pc's. I'll look for it. Not sure if its the same one you mention. If I find it I'll post it in a zip file here.

The random map generator is different. Blues News and the Q2 Paintball mod both have articles describing it but none have a download and I haven't been able to get into contact with either one. Basically you give the program a selection of prefabs and it generates halls and rooms randomly placing those prefabs into them.


I have a terrain program that reads .tga files and converts them into a .map file using hue of pixels to determin height. I can't get it to function properly but I think it's because my version of photoshop is not saving the .TGA's in the same format or version that the terrain program uses.

I'd be happy to download and take a look at which ever one you have though.

Here's a great Terrain editor that works really well for Q2, and has a nice 3d interface that allows you to manually
manipulate the terrain to very exact specifications..
(I use it regularly without problems)

I remember that Tsunami program - the link that Dervish supplied is indeed that very animal.  Can't get it to work after 2.3 minutes of hard work :)  I'll keep trying.

I still like Ben better though - the maps are more fun, even if they are rather ugly...

I have the RMG and have got it to work, it can only produce 10x10x1 grid maps based on the foundry prefabs you have,

farkus02, m_forest & s4 don't work the only foundries that work ar s1 s2 s3 and mike, there are other foundry packs but the links are long dead,

Planetquake sucks you can't find anything on there now

i'll try to find some foundry sets or the Foundry Development kit,
with the right foundry packs you could make some cool levels

Found all of the RMG files, and am currently looking to fix whats wrong with the foundry packs that don't work,
once this is done i'll zip it all up and post it somewhere,

Random map generation works pretty well, although alot of corridors look identical (thats just the nature of the beast), this can be gotten around with imaginative foundry design,

I'm also gonna make some Transformers themed Foundry sets to be released with the next version of Transformers Quake 2 (thats version 5 not the next version 4 of the mod)
