Gator: The sad thing is that co-op in q2 was really broken, especially in comparison with previous id games. My only hope now is that Paril and the likes throw in some features to make co-op worthwhile and stable.

I noticed that there's been some kind of entity editing in your single player maps. The "Error: could not find spawn point" message is what you get when you try to load a deathmatch map that does not have a normal player_start entity or a deathmatch map that has no player_deathmatch_start entities.

I'd try serving the normal unedited single player.

That could be part of the problem - but here's the rub. When other players beside me have connected it runs trouble-free. Eg when Quest, Pantaloons. BTF guys are connected with me there has been no problem. I suspect all these guys are using R1Q2 upgrades. As long as I don't intiate the "click" to go to the next level, things are fine. I still use Quake 3.20 (with WinXP). Duke and I were on last nite and started from Mine1 (courtesy of people before us) and it ran fine until it got to that sequence of maps where it goes to a new level (ie you can't go back one map). And I was the one who clicked it - and then the server crashed.
Not to beat this to death but Spike (remember him?) ran a co-op server maybe a couple of years ago and it ran fine.

I also run standard 3.2 client. I was not having trouble switching maps on your server.

Gator: The sad thing is that co-op in q2 was really broken, especially in comparison with previous id games. My only hope now is that Paril and the likes throw in some features to make co-op worthwhile and stable.

The downloads section of the tastyspleen homepage have the "Brazen" mod. It has an unbelievable single player/coop mod that is still being immitated in todays games.

The easiest way to describe it is that you can pick up dead Strogg weapons. The main features, however, are an expanded inventory system. You can hold one item and carry others. However you need a specific inventory spot for weapons. You have to litterally wear armor and packs and bandoliers and every weapon has clips.

Basically it makes a great coop because with the inventory limit you can literally have 1 player with a shotgun, 1 with a chaingun, 1 with all the grenades as a demolitions guy. It's just a really cool tactical spin on quake 2. Now it may not have been the same Brazen that you've played. In fact the version on the server is not the newest. The developer who pretty much stopped around 2005 I think it was, turned it into a completely deathmatch Action Q2 rip off. He forgot to put the download link on his planetquake page so I'm not sure that anyone has ever actually played that version.

Also the first version of the mod was exclusively made to support duel wielding of guns. I remember briefly discussion  with the developer on Qdevels about how difficult it was to get the game to display 2 of the same model without litterally just making a  new model that displays both weapons anyway. It pretty much seems that that whole thing was dropped in the version here. There are only 2 real glitches. The first being that when you drop the chaingun there are 3 parts to it. Well he accidently gave each part ammunition. Meaning when you drop all 3 parts, you can come back and pick up one of the 3 parts again to get all your ammo back. The second is that it's not possible to kill Makron or  Jorg. There's not enough ammo in the game. In fact you can't hold enough ammo to kill him. I've tried cheating before.

Anyway I didn't mean to write a whole mod review. I just think it's a coop worth serving
