Well i like the powershield off

a: it forces me to become a better player by learning how to move and not rely on it, though no one is expected to follow my example its how I play

b: as stated earlier by others, i don't like having to shoot a player 20 times with a rail or bfg befor he dies. Once or twice is fine but when you have to shoot a player that many times and he still doesn't die and then manages to kill you with a blaster, is kinda pathetic

c: straight deathmatch (on most of the maps anyways) to me means straight skills. Im the kind of player who likes to play with the best with no powerups and eventually become one of the best by doing so

custom maps

custom maps keep the server from getting old yet at the same time as dukie said i dont want 20 different maps added at random...it makes the game stray toooo far from ids origianl and i hate having to dl them.

dm maps

Me personally, i like the dm maps, especially q2dm8 its my fav off all the maps. too me nothing but sp maps can get a lil boring and not every game is instagib. in fact most are just as much as shotgun frenzies and rocket arenas as they are rail maps.

now i think the fact that your voicing your opion is a good thing. We get to see EVERYBODIES opion on the server to MAKE it BETTER. The purpose of the admins was not to nueter the game but to make it playable for all and to keep up with the demands of the players. the admins can't be doing that bad a job in the fact hat everytime i try to connect its full. So like I said i'm glad to came out of the closet and told us what you think.

So in a sense tho "Don't complaing about who makes president when you didn't vote"

You have an admin account, if ou disagree with something get on and change it.

About having another server: I'd be all for it if it didn't put a strain on existing hardware. Someone raised that as an issue (can't remember who, and I'm too lazy to go back and look), and I think if it would run any risk of causing problems, then it shouldn't be done. I'd rather have difficulty logging on to one full, stable server than to have two servers going down. But I don't know nuthin' 'bout birthin' no servers--or much of anything else when it comes to 'pooter stuff, so having me weigh in on this is like asking Barney Rubble to guest star on Star Trek...

As for the current settings, I think they're a good compromise: the dm maps have all the power-ups, and the rest don't. There's something there for everybody, including lower and higher frag limits on certain maps that are either unpopular or popular.

Seems to me if, as everyone seems to agree, maps are finishing in five minutes or under, then a good way to handle unpopular maps would be with a time limit rather than a frag limit. If the time limit were set at 10 or 12 minutes, who would know, right?

It just occurred to me that there's a bright side to maintaining unpopular maps (such as some of the koth maps) in the rotation: when they come up, people tend to leave, thus opening up the server.

I was just kidding, but I've often thought about what an "all cheats go" server would be like, where cheating was actually encouraged.

Maybe all the botters would love it and not pester the real players - yyeahhh riiiight

Well I tend to agree with Ballz, I miss the old xquake at times, that is how I played there for years. I am not a big fan of all the changes. The koth maps tend to get old fast to me. Only thing with AJ I don't get is does it not get old beating everyone every time like you do? I would think you would want to go play some gx with players of your level for more of a equal game, just a thought.

heh, gx is gamers extreme mod, a comp mod for teams. Most of the best players I have ever seen play the game play that mod, least they used to, not sure if they still do or not.

I like the diversity of the maps...playing the same ole same ole all the time is just...blah!

And if the gravity is not to your liking you can always see if console will change it

I like the idea of an alternate custom map only server. Running strictly the IDsoftware maps (both SP & DM) on the original server to original specs is also favorable to me (DMflags 16896).

Of course like Johnny said, I'd not be in favor of an alternate server at all if it introduced any type of lag or adversly affected the playability of the original server. I think one good playing server is better than multiple "mediocre" ones.

No there is a good point in this. I am trying now to setup a deal where I can start another quake server for y'all, on a different, modern hardware, box and keep this one where it's at.

Well here is how I look at quad/armor versus no quad/armor:

True, it is much easier to stay alive when these are turned on. But does this make it any better? Well, i guess that depends on your prefrences.

They way I look at it is :
- 9 out of 10 dm servers now adays have all of the default dmflags set. powerups, armor.. XQuake is a bit different by changing these flags around a bit.
- I beleive this switches things up a bit, and makes the experience a bit more enjoyable for everyone.
- If someone did want certain settings changed on a map(s) all they would have to do is speak up! If other people on the server agree, then i'm sure the admins would be glad to change some settings around.

Finally, i'm going to add my little opinion in. Sure, it takes a while to get used to playing without any armor. But I found it is much more challenging to me by playing like this. For example: If there is someone rail camping a spot which is very hard to get to...well you can't rely on your armor to protect you anymore ... since railshots take 100 hp away, what do you do? look for some health "shards" instead....that way you can absorb 2 shots instead of one. Advantage me!!

Plus, It stops you from just rushing into a big "cluster fuck" and firing rockets everywhere. i like that, for it makes you sneak around a little more, makes you think a little more. There is definitely more strategy involved.

But ya know.......i ramble too much....bla bla bla bla bla.

Any interest in a Lithium server? Some of the Lithium options I like are: hook w/5 second limit (no hook to sky), pad safety, no runes. Any thoughts????
