hey UUD how did you get the q2 server info on the desktop like that, and can you click those icons and launch q2 to that server????????

No, you can only see the server, can't join with it.

UUD-40 inspired me to cobble together server widgets for my XP desktop..

I used customized gametracker banner links and took advantage of the active desktop ability.
Only downside is I have to hit f5 to get them to refresh when I want realtime info.

using the gametracker software, I can click and join tho.

Why does everyone think I'm some hideous freak of nature? having intelligence doesn't mean you look like swamp thing. take any game server browsing software, re size it and stick it in the upper right corner of your desktop.

I'm not sure how similar it will be to vista (which I don't work with very much) but to make those, I went to gametracker.com and found the q2 servers, picked the one I wanted and hit the "server banners" link, and it gives you a few choices of different layout for the banner and the code you'd use in your browser to see that banner. (see above link)

I used the custom banner at the bottom, picked a size and color scheme that I liked and copied the code for each banner to my clipboard.

next I went to the desktop display properties, and selected the customize desktop option.

from here there is a tab marked "web" that allows you to put in a webpage url that you want displayed on your desktop.

I added a new entry, pasted in the url from the banners page and hit apply.

now the web page downloads and in a few seconds it shows up on your desktop like a little window. you can move and resize this window on your desktop, and there is an option in the desktop properties to "lock desktop items".

once the banner is where you want it, enable this lock so you don't resize it or move it accidentally.

You'll still be able to interact with it, just not drag it around the desktop.

I did this once for each lil window.
