TWL Quake 2 DM 1vs1 Ladder

Some of you are already playing on the wabam ladder, but right now there is a new 1v1 ladder about to launch. It's hosted on TWL, and it requires the use of the latest version of q2advanced to make sure cheating is avoided. It's not open yet, but signups are open and it will kick off as soon as 3-4 more players have signed up. If you're intrested in playing on a 1v1 ladder this is your chance. Maplist is as follows:

Q2dm1: The Edge
Q2dm3: The Frag pipe
Q2dm7: The Slimy place
Q2Pduel 1: Aerowalk by Preacher
Q2Pduel2: The dark base
Q2Pduel3: in2 Oblivion
Q2Pduel4: Kryptonite
Q2Pduel5: Reckless Abandon

Timelimit 15

First two maps are picked randomly and the final map if needed is picked by the defender.

dm2 isn't on the list just because the admin thinks its boring 

but if q2a 1.0 runs fine on this pc ill be playing in the ladder, itll probably be more active than wabam since theres cheat protection and a better website

problem with these is one person starts it.. then everyone wants to start one.. and the majority of them flake out after a few rounds

Personally don't mind the maplist, it's some good and some not so good. But everyone has their favourites. I actually think it's nice that other maps like pduel2-3-6-8 are being played as well. And with the random map You can't go ahead owning on one map in order to do well (*cough*ptrip*cough*) Reading the newspost "The map list as of 6/24/05.." I think it opens for adding removing maps as the ladder moves on, which I hope they will. A ladder system is great for introducing new maps. And will make it easier for players from other mods signing up.

Still yet to see the rules explain the server settings (powerups/bfg etc), but I'm confident they will be reasonable. Enforcing q2a doesn't bother me at all, I think it is the only way to go. With the new version it should run better on most computers, and people wont have to completely rewrite their configs I hope. Using a working anticheat tones down a lot of speculations and accusing of cheating as well as cheating alone.

As for admins I say give them a chance before you judge them, if they prove to be really bad then of course it's justified to criticize them But this far it looks like a pretty ok ladder.

It's only here for people intrested though, if you don't feel like playing don't sign up. But could be fun too

since wabam hasn't really been active since i started it.. i think ill just let it die, i wont kill it but im not gonna try to get people to play matches anymore. I will still idle in #wabam if anyone ever wants a challenge but I'll be playing on TWL ladder if 1.0 runs ok on this pc. I like the random map feature, I thought about doing that for wabam but couldn't think of a way with that newb site (but hey its free). TWL looks more promising so I suggest everyone who's in wabam go sign up for twl.. dont be intimidated by the other players

I just don't have the time to do this all the time anymore.. or I would practice and try and get better

Yeah, grow a thick skin when playing tdm players It helps. I know I'm fortunate as people seem to like me for some weird reason, but I've seen people act it up over minor details and get impossible to deal with. Or just act as assholes. I read the rules and it stood that they would knock down on poor behavior and hope that is the case.

That's the truth about the tdm scene, a lot of people run their mouths too easily (aka adrenal1ne), either manage to ignore it or defend yourself. I chose the 1st option most of the time, the second takes too much effort and easily distracts you from the game itself.

Not everyone are meanies, but not everyone are nice either

Anyway, 1v1 isn't for everyone as you all realize. It is a reason CS is such a popular game

lol I don't mind the maps either, and much to your dismay dael, I actually plan on competing in it without asking him to add ptrip or any other maps, I actually think the map randomization is a great idea. I thought it was funny that carn/audacity wouldn't add a universally recognized 1v1 map like dm2, but I wasn't criticizing them, not yet anyways haha.

Yeah, I know, but I see that q2dm2 is a duel map people really hate/love. But chosing q2dm7 over q2dm2 is weird in my eyes. For instance in smackdown tourney not one single game was played on that map, but on every other of the 11 maps.

Anyway, I play 1v1 most for fun and a random game now and then actually. But once the tastyspleen tourney is over it would be nice to have something to get the adrenaline pumping and something to practice for.

yeah duels are all we have left really, pretty sad, especially considering teamplay is what attracted me to q2 in the first place :/

Lemme know if you find it, I'd join you. I were never around when q2 was really active, I barely knew what internet was back then.

And yeah, teamplay is really fun when having a good team going. Not necessarily good individual players, but equally skilled/thinking players that pull in the same direction. But it was 1v1 that dragged me into teamplay eventually, as I had to play 2v2 on servers when people started to join the server and wanting to play. And teamplay on different maps are so fun, read my column on q2dm2 (which happens to be my favorite teamplay map, even though its completely different from q2dm1 which is my favourite duel map)
