Cannot get Anticheat to work

I just started playing quake2 again after a 2 year absence. I have always been a FFA and CTF player. When I started up again I noticed nocheat gave me lag trouble and the server always said I was not using anticheat. So I downloaded that web setup last night to install r1q2 and anticheat. When I join the game r1q2 is loaded and I make sure the r1gl mode is on. I still get the "Dean is not running anticheat" message at the beginning of maps. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong here?

actually, i had this same problem. I uninstalled r1q2 and anticheat and deleted them, then redownloaded it. That seemed to work for me.

Thanks for your help randypants. With your guidance I found the problem. I had an old version of R1q2 in my quake2 folder dated Mar 15th 2005. I think it was the original and the websetup did not over write it.

I deleted it and re-installed and all is fine now.

Odd, the web installer is supposed to overwrite existing files to ensure you're getting the newest versions. I'll check into that.

R1ch I think the reason it was not over written as I took off my q2 from an old DVD backup, hence all the files in my q2 folder became read only.

You would not believe the fun I was having rebinding keys, only to see nothing in my quake2.cfg file was saving as that was read only also!LOL

I still cannot get rid of the view weapon. Changing my fov to 105 and it not disappearing. I then went and changed my player to center to get rid of it, but the setting will not stick.

On the config file, do i set hand to 2?

I will try out the cl_gun 0 command tonight R1ch. I also would like you to know, that with the R1q2 running, quake2 has never run so smoothly for me. Now if I could only get these 38 year old reflexes to come back, I might win a few maps
