Since qcon06, talk has been tentative about coming out to Dallas a few days early (i.e. before the event) to have our own little lan party for Tastyspleen. I believe there are quite a few members who live in the area who will be able to help us out in finding a site, equipment, etc. If I end up doing any metal working classes this spring, I would love to volunteer for prizes as well.

Anyone who has serious plans of attending this year (SINCE THE EVENT WAS ANNOUNCED TODAY) at the same Hilton hotel as '06 (Aug 2-5) go ahead and post here, and lets look foward to a great year

Q2 LAN Party for the Tastyspleen Community

This would be q2 games of all varieties, team and 1v1 tournies, and time to visit in real life too.

I personally feel that it doesn't have to occur at the hotel. My local groups has had great luck in running medium sized LANs at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) locations and smaller LANs at mom&pop restaurants. Considerations being security, power, tables/charis, bathrooms, food/drink, sleeping area, etc..

Given that q2 was released in 1997, this will be a 10 year anniversary.

We should try to get some Id support (not money, but rather a stamp of approval).

Also, I think we should setup a LAN planning wiki here on tastyspleen. Open to all, editable by planners. This will help people collaboratively plan, and build confidence in those thinking of attending.

I fully support everything this man says or is likely to say in this matter

Wiki software is pretty easy to set up, so maybe utilizing the ts webspace in this manner would be appropriate. I wonder how much quadz is suffering though the bandwidth rape - I haven't heard of any complaints yet

But yeah, get yourself on the frappr map, and my interview with John Romero might find some relevance in this regard.

We're good on bandwidth.

I'll look into setting up a wiki. It'll have to be one that only lets registered users post... the old-style public wikis are just spam traps these days.

I'm a fairly active Wikipedia member, and worked for a while on another one with Zenex (CollegeCooking), so I would definitely be interested in assisting with this one

And Defiant: I'm not suggesting it be at the same hotel as qcon, but somewhere closeby in the area. For one thing, a lot of members live near Dallas (or closer than most), and those going to qcon can combine trips to attend this. It would become the part of those living closest to help find a location.

indeed, i think it would be cool for tasty to start its own quake2 wiki where all of us could contribute (with restrictions of course so people dont abuse)

My BTF tag refrains me from responding to your question since I have a natural tendency to become extremely sarcastic when it comes to someone insulting my home State AND the home of id Software (the developer of this game) AND the home of Qcon AND the home of ALOT of Q2 players.

Dallas is the 9th Largest city in the US. It's in the "middle" of Texas which is sorta in the "middle" of the US which also happenes to be called "Central" America AND It's where id Software is at.
Soooo that means that this very game that we play day in and day out was written, coded, and developed at, along with all versions of DOOM, Hexan, Quake1, Q3, Q4, Wolfstien, and many more.
Hell in fact, Midway helped with the developement of a few versions of console ports of these same games, and do you know where they're located ???? . . . . .
