How Do U Run / Play / See A " .dm2 " File.??

Hi there ...

I'm trying to work out how to see a recorded-demo of a match ... It has a file extension " .dm2 " ...
So far I have no idea how to see this demo, even when windows asks, I point to quake2.exe
Obviously this is wrong ... So how do U run this demo with a " .dm2 " extension.?? - Anyone.??

P.s. Also, How do U Record a match in play to checkout later.??

1) Put the demo in your "quake2/baseq2/demos" folder.
2) Open Q2, and type "demomap TheNameOfTheDemoGoesHere.dm2"

 
You can record a demo by typing in the console: "record YourDemosNameGoesHere.dm2" and stop the record by typing: "stop"
It will be saved in the demos folder.

UUD-40's suggestions are good.

At some point, you may want to "upgrade" your quake 2 client.  I recommend R1Q2.  It is "faster" and has many more features.  One feature is automatic demo recording wherein it records a new timestamped demo each map change.

For playing demos, I recommend DemoPlay.  It is a windows tool which associates with *.dm2 files so that when you double click one in Windows it opens and plays the demo.

during the install, you will point it to whatever q2.exe you prefer.  Then when you want to watch a demo, you just click on the .dm2 file.

WHOA.!! - Thanks Again ... 

I just created a folder called:- demos in my Quake2\baseq2  ( The demos folder wasn't in there )

I've now copied the demowatch.cfg to the demos folder, & that'll allow me to speed-up, or slow-down the demo.!!
I'm just about to give it a go, but I will try it both way.!! - ( Geeze, now that's starting to sound sus.? ) - Thanks again guy's, Cheer's.!!

Hi there again ...
Just letting U know, I did get both way suggested to work, which is great ...
I guess if U don't actually have the map, U can't see the DEMO of the game, which is understandable ... So that's fine ...

Anyway ...

Just that I happen to do a VirusScan last nite and ... Well ... I got a result I wasn't expecting.?? - In the DemoPlay folder.??
So far I have just left it alone ...
Did another Scan & all is fine ... DemoPlay itself still works perfectly, so I'll still continue to use it, just weird it came up in my scan.??
Just thought I'd pass this along as my experience to share ... Nothing comes up @ BitDefender about this.??

I would "quarantine" it. You can never be too safe. 
Not sure why it would come up as  a virus though.

Yes BitDefender is legitimate.

Those where false positives, some setup or DLL files will set off some AV programs at some point, due to the nature of those kind of files.
