Basic to Advanced jumping - Training Camp

[BTF]adam's basic - medium - advanced jumping demos.
A collection of different skilled jumps that any budding tdm'er/ffa'ller/dueller should master! : ))
Standard / Easy jumps
The Mega Jump
- One of the most necessary jumps for q2dm1 - to get the mega, the rocket launcher ammo and can often be used to escape enemys, to use it effectively you need to be able to consistently do it - this demo shows the mega jump on its own, so you can replay it and replay it until it sticks - it's pretty simple.. just look in the direction you want to go, sort of twitch the mouse a little doing a small circle / strafe jump to the next set of crates, then to the mega; for an easier way - you can jump to the light.

Speed Jumping
- This is another necessary technique, it's difficult to explain so it'd be useful if a more experienced jumper explained it better in case I describe it wrong - plus I just find it pretty hard to describe, just sort of keep forward held, and move the mouse from side to side (?), while holding the left / right key and changing simultaneously as you move.. ya!

Water Arena Quick Escapes
- This is a demo simply showing 2 ways to quickly leg it up the stairs if you're being chased by someone or simply want to say, beat them to the mega or something, it's nothing special and most people do it but it can be used just as you spawn too to escape the guy trying to put a slug up your ass.

Quick Double to Slugs and Health
- Ahh when is this not useful? you know there is rockets down there or about to spawn, but you wanna get there quicker, or avoid that railwhore up at the top of the arena trying to pick you off before you get there on your way out the machinegun way, or maybe you're just low on health or need slugs, well forget walking up the stairs, a quick double off this step is far more flashy and quick! haha ;]

Average / Medium Jumps
Double to YA
- This particular jump is used very often in tdm / 1v1, it's a quick and moderately simple way to grab the YA at the top of the crates, either a) quickly, before your opponent or b) just to save time / show off if you pull a frag behind you :p .

Useful Water Jumps
- Often essential again in tdm / 1v1, when done it will give you access to some shards, a health pack and 10 rockets.. this might not sound like a lot, but if someones nicked the stim packs, the shard'sll save you from a 1 hit 1 kill rail death, and 10 rox are invaluable to anyone.. the easiest way to do these are just push against the side of the wall as you run along it and in the slope-jump, just jump at the top and continue to 'push' the air, just to get that curve in, or in the stair-flat jump, wait till you come up to about the 3rd stair (indicated in demo) and double jump (click very fast twice) and that should be enough.

Jumping from the Upper Rocket Launcher to other side of water arena
- Not necessary usually, but can be useful (especially after grabbing the RL on the way - tops up 5 rockets to 15.., to perform just jump from the 2nd cell pack (it will stick after a while to just know even if its not there) not over-strafe jumping it and not under strafe jumping it.
http://adam.tastyspleen.net/traincamp/Across-Water-Arena.dm2
Yellow Armor to Ammo Pack Crates to Light to Mega.
- Often used and arguably quicker than most ways of getting to mega, also especially useful for grabbing the elusive mega before someone else does, or sometimes even doing the middle jump off their head xD.

Advanced / Harder Jumps
Mega Jump - One of many flashy ways
- I find this actually quite useful and fun to pull off, it requires getting the exact point where to double off on your way up the crate (kinda?
), over to the middle boxes, then a normal ending of the mega jump. I find this easier on high ping

Hyper Ledge to Grenade Launcher / Lift Top
- This is pretty hard I think.. though very useful if done sometimes, use your imagination.. i've indicated where to jump from with a blaster in the demo, I find it helpful to use fps 90 and look at the grenade launcher while I do it.
http://adam.tastyspleen.net/traincamp/
- It's the Hyper-Grenade Launcher.dm2 (I uploaded it with a space by accident.. )
Double from Small Middle Crate Box to Light to Mega
- I love this jump, it's so fun to pull it off in a duel, stealing the mega from right under peoples nose, it's also pretty useful in tdm (also duel I guess) when somebody has their crosshair on the mega, ready to pick you off when you jump for it - the doubling noise will make them think you went the standard way, and the quickness of it should fool them.

So, if these demo's are liked, i'll do some more and other people can contribute / edit whatever of mine they want, give different techniques etc.
Hope this helps!
Adam.
Latest edit: Added 4 new demos/descriptions, i'll always add new ones at the bottom of the categorys.

OK - I know this is an old thread - but wow, it's great! For the first time I've managed these jumps - OK, I mess up in a DM and can only do it when I use Edge for example, 'map q2dm1' then get the jumps. But, I could not do it when I played 14 years ago, but now can and I'm very pleased
Can't wait to get it so fixed in my muscle memory that I can also do it under the pressure of a TastySpleen DM with all those fast players!
Also, anyone new (or old, but either could not jump like that, or forgotten how) can use these training downloads and it'll help them too ... bean$

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
