Yeah, they pretty much should be great full that the quad is not enabled on sheridan. Even when it is, I don't have any fun... to easy!

I never spawn camp anything and hit fraglimits 90% of the time I play anything FFA. Yeah, you're right... I admit it's sometimes fun to stomp on some major noobs.

The powershield thing is referring to the sheridan server. (city1 only server)

What went wrong?

Broadband happend.

In the days when it was mostly dialup, the game was more laid back, you really did have to learn a few skills & doing team stuff like CTF (or team ffa for that matter - both of which I love) took some effort and co-operation and was fun.  It seemed like you met a better bunch of people. Now it's mostly how fast can you react to the stimuli and every dink that has a computer is suddenly "a star".

I rarely play anymore mostly because my schedule has changed to where I have little access to anything faster than 28.8 and it gets old real fast getting fragged constantly before I can react. I used to play a lot anyway even getting constantly fragged while hanging in mid-air because it was fun - I met people who had good attitudes and was fun to play with.

Now, about all I hear / see / experience when I go online is wah wah wah or stuff like the other day when I logged on to play one of the few times I had faster access. There was no "hey, how are ya? never met ya but we're gonna have fun" type stuff, it was "quakeduke.. what a lame name" I said, that's ok kid. I don't remember asking ya, (or something like that) figuring to get the obligitory stuff out of the way and thinking that would be the last of it but they kept on and on in that same vein.  Call me old fashioned  but the constant trashing of everyone and everything just makes me wanna puke. I have a hard time believing people are really like that but if that's what it takes to impress someone, then I guess things are a lot worse than it appears. Crawl any forum anywhere online and all you find is more of the same.

I like the game, play when I can, but it's getting where I don't like to so much for all the wah wah wah. Nothing's ever good enough. I play with any weapon I can find. They're in the game, they're meant to be used. If console wants to set up maps with or without any certain weps, that's cool. If not, that's cool too. Camping is part of the game - gives me more satisfaction to take out campers than it does taking a map. The only camping that bothers me - and it directly relates to broadband access - is spawn camping - it is total lameness without excuse for someone with broadband access to sit on a pad like that.

Broadband has changed the game. We can either adapt (easier for broadbanders than dialups) or quit playing.

Just my opinion.

I remember when HPB was 150+ ping now HPB is around 70+ ping...

I've felt the way QuakeDuke and Toxic describe from time to time.  I made it a point to start my own server and invite friends there via mailing list whenever I really want to have a fun and friendly game.  It's not uncommon for a few random 'net players to show up there, but the majority of the time they see the kind of game we're having and seem to enjoy it too.  You're welcome to use the server whenever you like; it's always up: jdolan.dyndns.org:27910.

I'm usually around 48-56ms or so to the central USA TS servers and back and I only have the basic (cheapest) high-speed package from my local cable co.

I dunno if I could even play with a 150 or higher, but I certainly wouldn't be paying squat for a connection if it was that slow.
