haha, screw it, it's easier to show than tell anyway ;) If people really want to know just ask someone on a server to show it a few times, and if that doesnt help get a hold of me and I'll try to tell the trick. Again, there are a lot of people who try it with the wrong runup.

Thanks again Daelmun!  Methinks I'll forever be trying the Edge jumps for as long as I play Q2... so now when I spot you in one of the TastySpleen servers, you'll know what I will be asking of you :D
I agree... doing is better than "reading" about doing... but every clue is helpful for me.  Believe me, I have bugged many of the capable jumpers about "doing" it and I have been spec'ed as well as spec them do it to no avail.

BTW, on a totally different note... do u ever play the playground.ru 1v1 servers Daelmun?  This past week, I've been playing on European servers such as playgound, with hopes that playin with 175-200 ping would help me with my match-play with 60 pingage... guess it wasn't enuff to advance me to 2nd round :(.

Hmmm.... brings me to another question for the pros...
Does playing w/higher ping make for good practice?

I think it might, kinda like practicing karate underwater.. or matrix style shit with alot of gravity.. itll take you a couple games to get used to the ping differences though but I think once ure back used to playing with low ping after playing lets say 10 games on high ping.. it'll feel alot better and you'll be a lil more confident. The best way of getting better is watch demos, get owned, then own.. rinse and repeat.

The 3 box jump to mega is a tough jump to master.  I do it a bit different than dael described as I dont use strafe on the first jump from YA to box above ammo pack.  I do however find the position he described as the best way to get a running start at the jump.  I simply run straight ahead, turn right and jump, gaining additional momentum for the  jump simply from the turning motion used as I enter the jump.  It creates a "slingshot" type effect that gives you the extra boost to reach the other box.

That being said I still find I miss the jump way to often, and I am going to work on adding a strafe into my first jump to see if it makes it easier for me.

Very nice article! The only thing I could add..is some dm experience.Ive noticed that most good 1vs1 players are good at 3 weapons Chain Rocket..and Rail.Heres a lil something I try every now and then and saves my butt.Say you are low on health being chased they expext you to run away...which  you should..but while running away...if you get them in a narrow area...and you know how to strafe jump...then while running in one direction, being chased with him close enough it is possible to turn around and jump over them completely. Most people dont expect this. But as soon as you do that turn around again and run right past them...Done it quite a few times..a lil juke and they have lost sight of you.Just remember this wont work on all players. You gotta use that when they r on you for the kill. They are so focused on getting that frag that they wont know what hit them. And the right area is critical for this too work, if its going to.Has to be a narrow area...with alot of escapes routes near by.(Like the exit toward the stairs in the megaroom, Q2DM1)

DUCKING-This has saved my butt more times than I can count!Especially when you get someone that likes to fire rockets at your head :)

JUMPING OVER ROCKETS-While this is hard, it can be fun to run at your enemy and have him spamming the ground in front of you and just jump over every rocket. Its nice to have a ssg whe attemtping this so in the event you make it close enough, just blast him.

Not all of these work on people...especially some of the better 1vs1 players.

In DM they work 24/7 though..hehe...I have used a few of these in 1vs1 and had them work...but only on the less experienced players.

PRACTICE is the key with all of these.

Well, there are a few places on q2dm1 where you can quite easily trick a chasing opponent. For instance when someone chase you with chain or rockets or any weapon from mega towards the supershotgun on the waterside, just as you're around the corner so you enemy can't see you just duck and wait for the enemy to jump right over you (and fire a SSG shot at his ass from underneath if you have the gun handy). As the stairs go downwards towards the SSG he will have a hard time catching up if you start to run immediately back to the mega. Don't do it all the time though, as people tend to read your tricks quite easily if you start to be sneaky all the time :)

The same goes when someone chase you up the chaingun stairs, just duck around the corner and wait with a SSG and deliver a 120 point blank damage to them as they come around the corner. Or when someone chase you from mega towards the water, just as you come out from the megaroom go to the left and stand still while jumping up and down (faking speedjumping), your opponent will think you run towards SSG and come after you, while you get a perfect shot on him from behind. Same with the arena exit from megaroom, you can fake an escape standing on the edge just behind the doorway. A lot more tricky, but the more usefull.

But as I said, use sneaky tricks with care. Don't use them unless you need it, cause if you use them once when not neccessary chances are they wont work when you actually do need them! :) :)

I have always been interested in 1v1, but it was always hard to get in on the action because the typical player in gx is SO much better than me.  Thank goodness for LostOurMinds, I am learning so much from the good players.   ;D  I'll beat you guys someday!

Are there any hpb's interested in 1v1 from tastyspleen servers? dont be discouraged, playing dial up is a huge disadvantage, but look at people like daelmun who ping avg. 150. Dael is an amazing player and keeps getting EVEN better all the time. It's hard to win games when playing dial up, but if you really practice the stuff dael says then you can get a lot better and actually compete. I played daelmun 2-3 weeks ago and he beat me 2-7, it was actually close until i lagged out and he killed me and got the lead 3-2, that cheap basterd... but anyways what im trying to say is even with the ping disadvantage, if you follow dael's guidelines you can still get lucky and definitely compete. In my case i was really lucky cause i suck.. haha.. but if any dial up players ever need any help get ahold of me and id be glad to help them out.

OK how 2 get better at 1 vs 1  (by baynes)

1. sit on the toilet (shit) with the computer in the bathroom with ya

2. talk shit like me (banes)

3. spam up alot of those annoying :) :( while playing

4. bragg and act like your the best and call other people noobs so that when they play you, theyll lose confidence

5. when ever ya lose, whine and bitch about losing and why ya lost, and annoy the fuck outta them instead of saying: gg or ya did good regardless if they used a chaingun or bfg.

:'( lol  good skillz banes, your a pro  ::)
