Config Files
«

A lot of new players have been asking me for my config file lately so I want to post it here for them. I'm also posting Damiah's config since I based my drop binds on his. Mine is for NoCheat 2.40. The autoexec file goes in every mod folder and the ghost.cfg folder goes in the Quake2 directory. Of course you should customize it a bit for yourself (i.e. change name).
Anyone else can feel free to share their configs on this topic.

These drop binds insanely confuse me... Now I haven't worked on a config in a loooong time. So that most likely has something to do with not understanding these fancy binds.
I thought if you wanted to macro a key to do more then on thing you would:
create alias line (give name and commands separated by ';')
bind a key to the alias's name.
Is it possible you could explain one line of the drop alias you created? To me it looks like it... drops weapon, ammo, switches your gun and says team the location of your drop and what it was.
Problem is I'm having a hard time getting it to work. Using your config the way it is, how do you drop different weapons using your alias?

I ganked my drop binds from some other guys config, but they seem to work like so:
there are 4 of these for different weapons, but I'll stick with the Rocket Launcher for now..
these first short aliases are just used to keep the whole thing readable and under the maximum character limit for an alias.
these play a sound:
alias m1 "play misc/menu1"
alias m2 "play misc/menu2"
these do the actual dropping:
alias x1 "drop Rocket Launcher"
alias a1 "drop Rockets"
this is the meat of the bind that puts it all into a short macro..
alias +w1 "x1;a1; say_team $ret Hey Teamate! $arw [DROPPED] [RL] $loc_here ;m1"
alias -w1 "echo [Normal-Mode];m2"
It pretty much says, when the key bound to w1 is pressed down:
"drop rocket launcher; drop rockets; say_team Hey Teamate! [DROPPED] [RL] here; play misc/menu1"
then when the button goes back up:
"echo [Normal-Mode];play misc/menu2"
this is the key you'll hit to set it off:
bind RIGHTARROW +w1
so if I hit my right arrow key and hold it down, it should empty out my rocket inventory on the ground with whatever RL's I was carrying, play a sound to tell me it did this, and send a chat message to my teamate to tell them.
when I release the right arrow key, it stops and tells me I'm back to "normal-mode" which in case your wondering means "I'm not shitting out rockets anymore"..
the "$loc_here" part only works if you have location binds set up (I don't) but it won't be a problem if you don't.
It just won't say anything.
the other two odd bits in the bind are:
$ret
$arw
I think these are chat formatting characters like a tab and a line feed character..
I dunno for sure.

.
a "command" is one instruction to the game.
"use rocket launcher" is a
command
a "bind" tells the program to do whatever instructions (commands or aliases) when you hit that key.
there are a limited number of available keys on your keyboard and so there are only so many binds you can have.
bind MWHEELUP "use rocket laucher" is a
bind
an "alias" is a list of commands in order of completion when read from left to right.
you can make as many aliases as you want as long as they aren't incredibly long.. (not sure what the limit is)
alias RL "use rocket launcher" is an
alias
2
.
Many of the better jumpers do not, in fact, use binds for jumping...
They usually have binds to change their "cl_maxfps" because at certain FPS you can make certain
jumps easier, but double-jump binds and scripted jump sequences are not very popular.
I use a double-jump bind for some stuff, but usually only when I absolutely need to make the jump that second in the heat of battle.
If no one's around, I try to do them myself. (I'm also not a very good jumper)
when using r1q2, you should put "set cl_async 0" in your config. it will allow you to jump the same as in regular q2.
for some reason, without this setting, r1q2 tends to make your jumping movements a little shorter and lower...
3
.
you should put the changes you want in another file and call it "lidz.cfg"
place this in your baseq2 and mod directories and when you load quake 2,
just type "exec lidz.cfg" in the console. it will read the file and write the settings over whatever you had before.
If you're using r1q2 then it should contain these lines:
set cl_async 0
set sensitivity "
X
"
set m_directinput 1
set name "lidz"
...
X
= whatever sensitivity you use

Ok your alias setup I understand Whirling. Thank you!
However this is what I don't get...
alias usg "use shotgun;use super shotgun"
- Uses either shotgun or super? What happens if you have both?
alias dsg "drop super shotgun;drop shotgun;drop shells;wait;bind 3 drop shells;say_team Dropped SSG\SG at $$loc_here %n"
- Drops Super, Shotgun and Shells then binds 3 to drop shells again?
alias dsh "drop shells;say_team Dropped SHELLS at $$loc_here %n"
- Drops only shells?
alias +weapdrop "bind 3 dsg"
- Once +weapdrop key is pressed, binds 3 key to dsg alias?
alias -weapdrop "bind 3 usg"
- Once -weapdrop key is pressed, binds 3 key to usg alias? (-weapdrop key is not bound in this config??)
alias +ammodrop "bind 3 dsh"
- Once +ammodrop key is pressed, binds 3 key to dsh alias? (If dsg alias binds the key to drop shells, what is the point of +ammodrop if +weapdrop alias's rebind the key to drop shells anyhow.)
bind SHIFT "+weapdrop"
- Binds +weapdrop alias to shift key.
alias -ammodrop "bind 3 dsh"
- Once -ammodrop key is pressed, binds 3 key to dsh alias?
bind CTRL "+ammodrop"
- Binds +ammodrop alias to CTRL key. (-ammodrop is not bound?)
So after typing this all I understand a bit of it...
-ammodrop/-weapdrop happen when you hit the +weapdrop/+ammodrop key again? So once SHIFT is hit it will bind 3 to drop weapons and ammo together. Then when SHIFT is hit again it will run the alias to use a shotgun or super?.
Wacky! Main confusion:
Why make an alias to use multiple weapons at once?
Why make an alias to bind a key to something that the previous alias does? It seems to me that the keys meant for these alias's will default to drop ammo unless +weapon is pressed. At that time it will drop a weapon and ammo.

1.
if you put two weapons in the alias in order like that, it choses the last one on the right if you have it.
say you want to bind a key to find the best shotgun that comes to hand when you reach in your inventory:
you'd make one like this:
bind f "use shotgun; use supershotgun"
it will equip the shotgun first, then if you have a SSG it will switch to that instead cause it's the last one on the list.
I use this for my PS bind so I always get the best one when I have both..
(bind P "use power shield; use power screen")
2.
this is for making aliases that use the same button to do different things when you hit it over and over again.
here's a simple example, this alias records demos at the push of a button:
bind F5 "autodemo1"
bind F6 "stop"
alias autodemo1 "bind F5 autodemo2; record autodemo1"
alias autodemo2 "bind F5 autodemo3; record autodemo2"
alias autodemo3 "bind F5 autodemo1; record autodemo3; echo [next demo overwrites demo1]"
after you hit F5 to record a demo, it changes what F5 is bound to so you don't immediately overwrite the same file again.
It cycles to the next demo file the next time you push the button, because F5 doesn't mean "use the autodemo1 alias" anymore. when it gets to the end of the list, it sets F5 back to what it was originally..
3.
I think some of your confusion may stem from the + and - characters in the alias..
these are tough to explain, lemme think about a good way to put it.. I'll get back to ya.
they're kinda like "key down' and "key up" events...
