i do not think that sarcasm could be any more apparent. the word "epitome" comes to mind.. and then it is set aside as it does not even begin to describe sarcasm of this astronomic intensity.

evolution vs. creationism

this is an interesting video, because it plays on the connotations of stephen hawking's personal feelings, and highlights some radical views, not to mention to angry evolutionists. I love it, I'm sure Dahang , and all the other god-haters will appreciate this!

One thing I disagree with, is that they argue against the presumed need for fine tuning of the properties of this universe to create life.

Arguing over creationism vs evolution is sort of bizarre. You realize there are theistic evolutionists who believe in a god creating the universe, and then letting things evolve, right?

I realize that, and I think the people in the video do as well, but I still find it funny (because they get so mad), and interesting.

I just believe in god, good vs. evil kinda thing, you can't really explain the details, as god is pretty darn complicated, and incomprehnsible.

if you watch the video they are arguing against god creating the universe as well

The first of these was Darwin himself...
It's not like he went to the galapagos archapelago with the sole intention of trying to discredit the "word of God".

He went there to further his understanding of how the natural world works and he discovered a pattern.
He wasn't some heretic who was trying to build up a basis to undermine all of religion.

Once his findings were interpretted and extrapolated to their theoretical beginings over the following years, people started to realize that maybe life didn't need a god to have begun it's existence. This bears a remarkable resemblance to the outcome of much of Hawking's work in much later years. He doesn't deny that there could be a god, but his conclusions beg the question:

Must there be a God, for the universe to look the way it does right now?

It may not really matter Dervish. Whether a God exists or not, it does not necessarily mean you can live forever. What if our existence is entirely related to processes occuring in the body? As soon as they would stop, so may life. I think the research out there on neuroscience and consciousness tells some interesting stories, like the stories of people who have damage to their visual cortex and become permanently blind. Or the rats with damage to their hypothalamus changing their eating patterns, and become extremely obese, or extremely anorexic.

What is your definition of God DaHanG? Assuming the standard definition, it could matter for our lifetime, but what about after death? You haven't addressed my point about processes occuring in the body and consciousness.

My definition is a creative intelligence behind the universe.

That's why I said it could matter. If god existed, he may or may not choose to give us an afterlife, rules on how to live, etc.

I didn't interpret your point about body/consciousness as a challenge. I think everything we experience in our lives is a product of our body/mind alone. It boils down to determinism, and there is no soul or outside entity behind it. At least, there is no evidence for such.

I see, so you are a determinist like me, that's good. Usually when I'm talking with christians about God, the idea of an after life always comes up. I find it interesting how many christians believe that God pre-determines their life, and yet, are allowed to have a so called "free will" and disobey God. So in other words, all of God's creations that have sinned against him are pre-determined to be punished in a lake of fire. Loving God? Nope.

These days I'm leaning towards the 10 dimensions and infinite parallel universe theories with God / heaven being in the 10th dimension.
