Singleplayer Maps Vs Multiplayer Maps
« on: May 31, 2005, 06:45:52 AM »
I know this is all preference-based, however, I feel the SP maps do not include enough weapons.  12 dudes running around with blasters or single shotguns is hardly fun.  Is it possible for tastyspleen to setup a server running q2dm1-q2dm8?  I bet that server would easily become more popular than the SP-based one.  Tastyspleen is the only group of admins who know what they are doing.....

i second that. Back to basics. some of those  'old maps' are so... mmmm big and weaponless and well sometimes it's kinda 'frustating' play @ vanilla.

I agree, some of the sp maps get old, but which ones that would go I would have a hard time picking.More customs would be neat. But there is a delicate balance we have to watch here.I am for addding a few custom maps..I just couldnt pick which ones to get rid of.

Until I read the description of the server on these boards, I believed the mutant server was some type of MOD.  I will check it out.

Tastyspleen is the only group of admins who know what they are doing.....

Ha ha, ... careful - :) Last time I checked, most tastyspleen admins liked the single player maps and were tired of dm1-8...  ;D

But anyway... Yes indeed, please give mutant a try - you might like it.  It's deathmatch maps only.  If you don't want to suffer through slow map downloads in-game, you can get all the maps, textures, and envs at:
http://www.tastyspleen.net/quake/downloads/
It's not a custom game mod - just straight deathmatch with custom maps.

As for vanilla, I'm all for finding ways to spice up the map rotation, but not by deleting all the single player maps and substituting dm1-dm8... ;)  ...Hmmm. what options does that leave?  <grin>

Regards,

I think the maps in vanilla are just fine... I prefer DM maps but there are some fun single player maps....

But the real issue is the amount of people; having 22 players on a tiny DM map isn't fun.

Well, shooting a rail randomly down a hall and fragging 4 people can be fun..but gets old very quickly.

I think vanilla is perfectly fine as it is.  No changes should be made to the rotation at all in my opinion.  I am one of those people who love the huge maps that make you search for your opponents or the best weapons.   I don't think the weapon layout is quite as bad as you make it out to be, lol.

But as other people have already stated, mutant seems to be the place where you may want to be.  I know you will have a lot of fun on there.  ;)

go play single player then, a decision that does not affect every other player on the map, i love alot of the single players maps, but i do not like this searching for weapons or your opponent i find it a waste of time and i dont know why anyone would enjoy it

Damn!  I mean Damn!
Why don't they have a server that plays only the six single player maps I like and the 2 Dm maps I like!
If I may be allowed to slip into Banes speak for a moment...
I don't like the Guard House, so when it comes on I either leave or I camp like hell with the BFG.  And I do not give a FLYING FUCK if you call me a camper, because that map is only good for that only!  Wade through the shit you don't like and be happy when the maps you like come on, SHEESH!!!
OH NO BLUTO, THEY ARE PLAYING A MAP I FIND BORING!
There are a SHITLOAD of severs playing the DM maps.  Vanilla always has players, they don't.

Damn!  I mean Damn!  This really pisses me of to no end. Damn!
