I'm not sure Satellite would even help you where gaming is concerned.  Too much delay from a geostationary bird 22,000 miles high.  Most implementations of Sat internet utilize a phone line for outgoing requests, and Sat for return. 
You need a Wimax connection, QD...more  like a line-of-site radio style of broadband.  It's theoretical range is 31 miles, but that's with line of sight  (no obstructions).  That's probably going to be the answer for more rural internet users.

Yeah, I pretty much ruled out Sat quite some time ago - and, for some crazy reason, it's expensive as all get out - even if you've got the 'quipment.
I've been following just about every kind of BB access available for rural areas and still haven't found anything that's really feasible. I'd have to install my own wipoint - Pricewise? when you figure in the fact my dialup comes with the phone line I have just for it I doubt if I could find anything more cost effective. Bad thing is, I live waaay to far from the CO for any kind of digital connection even.

Oh well. The trade off is really worth it - nice breeze, nice trees, deer eating saltine crackers out of your hand (not in a zoo either - running wild), lotsa nice play area for the grandkids (read no asphalt / concrete, gang bangers, drive bys, etc. [been there done that] ) close to the lake, neighbors (real ones who let me know if someone has dropped by when I"m not home and watch over the place when I'm gone and are there to help put roofs back on for nothing after the wind blows them off, etc).

Besides, if I got BB, what would I blame my n00biness on??
