If your server is running from behind a router, then you have to forward the port in the router in order to connect to it from outside your network.

Well, I'll try my best.
First let me know what the brand and model of the router you have is.

First what you want to do is make sure the computer that is running the Q2 server is set to use a static IP and not have a random one assinged by the router.
First log into your router,
http://192.168.1.1
Look for a tab that says "DHCP", note what the IP range is, you want to set the Q2 server PC on an IP outside this range.
On the computer that running the Q2 server, open Network Connections, right-click on your network card (usually "Local Area Connection") and select properties.
Then from the list in the middle select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", and select properties.
Change it to "Use the following IP address", put the IP that you want to use in here, the default gateway is the IP of your router (192.168.1.1) and subnet mask should fill itself in. Then don't forget to put in the DNS servers to use, those IP's can be found on your routers status page.
Here's a screenshot of how mine is set,
Then after that make sure you can still browse the web and stuff from that computer.
If you can then follow this guide, for forwarding the port in your router,
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/BEFW11S4/Quake_2.htm
Hopefully that helps, if you have more questions on anything please ask, I can provide more screenshots if needed.

User name =
Password = admin
User name should be blank, but if it says you need one then use admin for that as well.

Hmm, no I don't have MSN, nor will I install that. I'm very picky about programs that go on my computer. I do however use Trillian for Yahoo and AIM, and I use Google Talk.
As an alternative to forwarding the port you can use port triggering.
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_triggering/Linksys/BEFW11S4/Quake_2.htm
That is kind of like an automatic forward of the port as needed.

You don't need there program to do it.
Just setup the stuff in the port triggering section of your router.
