A little early, but since North Carolina is one of the "breakout" teams, I'm at least a little informed about the preseason.
First, it honestly looks like business as usual for the most part. Everyone that's usually beats each other more than likely will continue to do so. Georgia is slightly more stacked than usual, but that only means so much and it's tough for them to not have a better than 1 loss record. They really only lose 2 at worst, so that's typical.
So the teams that can potentially mix things up a bit are Michigan, Miami, USC, Texas........HELL NO.
It's Texas a&m, North Carolina, Iowa State, and Oregon, in no order.
I'm not gonna make a huge post as the first one, but I'll add that north Carolina lost the best running back duo in the nation, yet gained what should be the best corner back duo in the nation(two top 10 ncaa corners, Duck and Grimes).
I'm buying tickets to a NC game today. My mom's going to Miami, might meet her there.

I.... do not have the same faith that you have. Kirby Smart hasn't managed to find a good QB as long as he's been there. Jake Fromm? He doesn't qualify as "good" in my opinion. He's had talent all around him, and he's done enough to not completely fail at the job. But I'd really like to see someone as good as Aaron Murray was or better. In my opinion, a great accurate QB can do more with mediocre receivers than a mediocre QB can do with Heisman candidate quality receivers. And I haven't felt the same kind of confidence that I had in Aaron Murray in any of the QB's Georgia's had since he graduated.

Fromm wasn't good. Good enough, sure, but not what
should
be good enough for Georgia. Georgia's a far bigger program than NC but I can actually make the comparison at the qb position because a good qb at NC is the norm. And... out of our last 5, I'm not sure I would've taken fromm over any of them. 4 I'm certain, hell no, the only one I'd debate over is brynn renner(he was actually semi decent. Big rivalry between him and mike glennon, but Renner's the weakest link).

I'll believe it when I see it.
They said the same thing when they signed Mark Richt as head coach after Georgia fired him. And they've been saying it for dozens of
other
given reasons over they last 20 years as well.
Talk is cheap.

What do you mean? This time it's for'eal. The U is BACK!!!
It's a pretty good way to make money maybe. Their spread is only 17.5 for Alabama Miami because of the endless hype they always give Miami in the preseason.
Last year Miami had 3 losses. Regular season losses to Clemson by 25pts and UNC by 38pts, and bowl game okie state with a 1pt loss. UNC and Alabama had the best offense numbers in 2020(about tied in every category), and unless bama really lost some people they should cover that 17.5 without issue, especially if it keeps dropping lol. 16.5 would be better.....I guess ya never know though. I won't be betting on it.
In all honesty Miami isn't THAT bad. But when they face a good coach that has top level talent they don't fare well, so far. I think that's on manny diaz.

His name is Barkevious Mingo...
You've probably never heard of him, but what are the chances that someone with the name Barkevious Mingo is white?
If you answered 0 percent,...

I see he hails from the great town of Belle Glade, FL. It is a poor town on the bottom edge of Lake Okeechobee. I have been through there a couple of times. All of the buildings looked old, except this one group of buildings that I thought must be city hall. These buildings looked like a new college campus, it turned out to be the high school. You had to drive by a very rundown trailer park to get there, but it was by far the newest/nicest buildings in the town. Belle Glade has probably the most NFL players per capita in the nation. Belle Glade rarely loses especially at home. My local high school went in there and won a playoff game and from what I heard from fans who went, they were worried about getting out of there. Mingo played his college ball at LSU

Texas & Oklahoma are talking about joining the SEC -
https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/31865190/big-12-officials-meet-discuss-possible-departures-oklahoma-texas-sec
If this were to happen, how would it change the CFB playoff picture?

Texas becomes a middle of the road SEC team. Oklahoma at best can be 2nd in the SEC. That is unlikely. 4th may be most likely, 3rd 2nd most likely. At worst 5th, maybe 6th. It's tough to pull a clean sweep of the SEC excluding Georgia, Florida, Texas a&m, LSU, and obviously Alabama. If Oklahoma manages to beat 2-3 of those teams, and sweeping the rest that's pretty darn good. But, I can easily see them dropping a token game they shouldn't lose so.. that's 3 losses.
WVU and Notre Dame to the ACC is the other gossip. Iowa State and okie state to PAC as well, in addition to other big 12 teams following suit. I haven't heard much about the big 10. They're a big money machine, but have also always had a system that avoids and benefits off only playing in their inner circle.
The word is, the big 12 schools/AD's and big 12 bigwigs. ESPN wouldn't renew contracts with the big 12 because they're not confident in their existence. Seems like the conference is imploding.
The SEC has considered bringing Texas into the fold, but they've always met a roadblock with "the longhorn network". Texas won't drop it, SEC won't allow it.
So it's hard to say, but it sounds like the big 12 going to shit is actually putting the super conference thing into motion. But so far it looks like the PAC is in a position to benefit the most from this, IMO. USC is a joke and Oregon needs more consistent teams to play against.
In the ACC Clemson will take anything they can get. UNC should be ranked 8th and at worst 12th entering the season, but this will be the 2nd year in a row where they don't play UNC. NC was the unofficial winner of the coastal last year, but since they scrapped the divisions due to covid it was a rematch with ND. Hoping UNC doesn't drop losses to VA tech or ND is their main way to face a quality opponent. NC's first game is a night game @ VA tech, and play ND in south bend as well. VA tech is going to be going for that upset like crazy. It'll be tough, and NC is only favored against ND by 1.5 last I checked.

I'm gonna term this the Nascarification of NCAA football.
The SEC dominates at football, so what do the somewhat decent teams from nearby conferences do in response? They join the SEC and muddy the waters even more for SEC schools that
aren't
Alabama and who fight like HELL every year trying to get the top spot in the conference. Alabama didn't just get more competition, EVERYONE ELSE in the SEC did, thank you very much.
Texas is barely a "southern" state. In the civil war, it participated on behalf of the south basically within it's own borders in it's own little individual war. It's technically a midwest state. Oklahoma is DEFINITELY a midwest state. They are not SOUTH EAST. This potentially forces both Oklahoma and Texas to travel ridiculous distances to get to games in Florida and South Carolina.
It's money. Like I said, Nascarification. Money and commercial bullshit driving the decisions governing nascar rules and format is what has completely RUINED the sport of Nascar for old school traditional fans of it like myself. Texas and Oklahoma likely draw the biggest numbers of viewers and ad revenue, and moving them to the "big show" that is the SEC is clearly a marketing move to grab more money.
Who cares about the sport and tradition, gotta get the fuckin' money.

The South(which is the southeast), to me REGIONALLY has always been everything within North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Louisiana. If we're talking varied historical significance, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, and South Carolina are the first 4 to mention. Still no Texas and Oklahoma by either category.

Texas fans are kinda like Michigan fans. They live in their own little world where they wear blinders to block out what everyone else is doing, and they never have a year where they just "suck", there's always some mitigating excuse for it that convinces them that if certain misfortunes had not occurred, they would be in the top 10.

I'm here, so let's get this thing going.
Georgia vs Clemson on the 1st week. Georgia is supposed to have the best roster in years and have the QB position ready to go. Clemson is supposed to have the best defense they have had in years. The Clemson QB did look good when he played last year, but that was not against this level of competition. I think these teams are both worthy of the top 5 rankings they have (pre-season). This game would normally answer a lot of questions about the teams, but being the first game of the season, I'm not sure.
LSU vs UCLA - UCLA looked good against what was probably a weak Hawaii team. LSU is a totally different level of competition. Stingley has been good since he started at LSU, but the rest of the secondary needs to improve, hopefully another year of experience helps that. LSU needs to expose the PAC12 for what it has been for years and win this game by at least 2 TD's.
Ala vs Miami - I think there will be a lot of big plays in this game. Miami is going to blitz the freshman QB for Alabama. The QB will make big plays or make mistakes. I see the possibility that Alabama draws & screen passes could turn into big plays when Miami brings the house at the QB. Miami has had problems protecting the QB. The Miami QB is good when he has time, but think he is going to see a lot of Red in this game.
Alabama will be to much for Miami and win by 2-3 TD's.
UNC vs VA Tech - Mack Brown has recruited very well, we will see how well in this game. Sam Howell is really good, but he has lost most of his weapons from last year. Who is going to step up and be the next playmaker. The game is at VA Tech, but I think UNC gets the win.
Florida State vs ND - I am not normally a FSU fan, but in this game I am. ND ranks at the top of the list with Ohio St. as the teams that get the most preferential treatment by the press. ND will probably win this game, but I am hopeful for a FSU upset.
And now for the battle of FLA - UF vs Florida Atlantic. This should be a tight game that UF pulls out at the end, because it is played in Gainesville
Florida lost a lot of weapons on offense, it will be interesting to see who becomes the new playmakers. This game will not show me anything though. Florida plays two cupcake games before Alabama walks into Gainesville on 9/18. Florida will still be a unknown team at that point.
