Yesterday a new player showed up at a server I run.  Nova Scotia Canada location.   There were about three other players having a good time, and this new player was playing well. They did the common "First time I have played quake2 in fifteen years" routine. But they weren't doing anything shady or anything.

Then a new map started, I guess this player didn't like it, and started doing that fast-humping thing players do when they're bored. huh-huh-huh-huh-huh super fast at one key map location.   This is annoying so I asked this player to stop doing it.  He/she got bad attitude right away and said "make me".  So, I made them stop by kicking them asap.  I kept an eye out for them to return, ready to ban, but no sign of return.

To the other players in the server who were happy I took swift admin action against a problem player, you are welcome.  There are no consequences to the server or server community for swiftly kicking and then banning a new unknown problem player.

I hope other server admins in the gaming world can follow this thinking.

If someone has been playing other FPS games the whole time, it's not that hard to come back and play well right out of the gate.

You let the player get to you here. Sometimes players are going to have bad attitudes, that's part of humanity.
Based on what you said he was doing, it sounds like he was a free frag. If the quake2 male jumping sound was truly annoying you, then you could keep fragging him so he can't spam Huh! Huh! as much. In-game solution.

You have a different way of looking at things than the Tastyspleen way. We have to admin on a much larger scale and we have a lot of experience with the consequences of admin actions.
Last time I checked we have WallFly[BZZZ] in over 130+ quake2 servers, if we ban someone it's a huge ban that impacts more than tastyspleen servers.

Gator and quadz taught all full TS admins "the tastyspleen way" and I have carried those ideas and philosophies with me my whole life. So have other TS admins.
To be honest I don't see how the Huh! Huh! player's actions qualify as a "problem player that needs to be banned."
At tastyspleen we have these servers up so people have somewhere to come together and play quake2. You have to have a certain level of patience and understanding, and the last thing you want to do is take away someone's ability to play their favorite game.
Some people are just difficult, and even the most foul mouthed spammer deserves to play quake2 even if he's muted and can't talk anymore.

A ban is a last resort meant for the real problem players and not just some doofus spamming his jump.

Whoever you are, please stop lying.  I have never booted anyone, anywhere, for anything even remotely related to conversational topics in chat.   All I care about is if unreasonable behavior is ruining the game for other players that just want to enjoy some civil gaming fun.   (console spam, botting, cheating, hacking, trolling, repetitive abuse to others, etc.)

I could write an essay about the fabricated stories I've heard that "pepp has been doing" over the last ten years, and I'm sure that applies to other admins on other servers, too.

All of the times I played on Pepp's server, I never had any issues.

Pepp is probably more strict than some other admins, but it is his server so you play by his rules.

Pepp's take on acceptable behavior is what 90 percent of players play like anyway.

One reason I never had any issues with Pepp is I let him win
