A few facts I've noticed.

1. We have no fucking clue how many Americans have this virus.
2. We have no fucking clue how many Americans are immune to this virus.
3. We have no fucking clue what the true death toll is.
4. We know the death toll number is false.
5. We have no proof that the case numbers are tallied accurately.
6. We, as a nation, were absolutely baffled that there would be an uptick in cases despite re-opening the economy and MSM encouraging hundreds of BLM protests (which were the only gatherings considered safe, regardless of masks or social distancing recommendations).
7. This virus varies in severity of symptoms in an abnormal way.
8. A huge fuss was made about this virus despite all the glaring unknowns thereof.
9. The virus itself as been heavily politicized.
10. The aftermath of the virus has been used by prominent political figures against political adversaries.
11. Part of the narrative is that if you don't follow the narrative, you're an inconsiderate person (and probably a bigot).
12. A lot of people/countries are benefiting/profiting from this virus, but the American people are not.
13. Freedom has been heavily restricted, including 1st, 2nd, and 5th amendment rights.
14. Businesses are closing down indefinitely, hindering independence and encouraging dependence on the government.
15. Aside from the future mass inflation Trump has already caused through mass spending via fiat money, the stimulus packages add significantly to this.
16. Anything going against the narrative is immediately pounced upon.
17. Our greatest adversaries (for free) are provided detail to a previously somewhat unknown concept: how easily manipulated the American people are.
18. Crazy shit always happens during election years.
19. Biden is brainless (and corrupt)
20. Trump is spineless (and corrupt)
21. Americans are capable of instantly placing their faith firmly in the hands of entities whose trustworthiness is questionable.
22. According to newly instantly adopted societial norms, a mask is a mask, period.
23. As a society, the wearing of masks is stressed more forcefully than basic hygiene and social distancing.
24. Widespread lockdowns treat BFE rural areas similarly to urban metropolitan areas.
25. Child exploitation including sex trafficking is through the roof as opposed to last year due to lockdowns.
26. Americans are (directly or indirectly) labeled as morally deficient if they do not follow the accepted narrative.
27. The vast majority (85+%?) of MSM says one thing, and some anchors on Fox say another, yet people choose a side instead of intelligently assuming the truth lies somewhere between these starkly different narratives.
28. Most of the changes being made (directly or indirectly) give the government more power.
29. People have issues overcoming the instantaneous emotional response caused by the mayhem surrounding this virus and are rarely able to think logically.
30. The American people are thoroughly distracted by this virus and what it has caused, and we truly have no idea what is happening behind the curtain presently.
31. This virus as fueled yet more division in this country, making the citizenry easier to control.
32. Daily death numbers via the CDC are the lowest they've been at in months.
33. Republican governors are being villified for re-opening when Andrew Cuomo gets praise for having low case numbers in recent weeks, which may have something to do with him indirectly killing most of the high risk individuals in NY through his incredibly idiotic actions already.
34. We are letting criminals out of prison for fear that they may catch this virus (instead of giving them a mask?), yet are throwing business owners in jail for refusing to close down (in a broader sense, who does this benefit?).
35. We are closing schools despite much of science suggesting the risk is low (hindering child exploitation never surfaces within this argument).
36. Big Tech Media/companies are actively censoring information on this virus that doesn't fit the MSM narrative.

Opinion: There is no one 100% reliable source of information stating ALL relevant facts on this issue, and if their was, it would be destroyed or deleted almost immediately.

I've been up for 24 hours. My apologies for the list being so brief and any errors I made.

Agreed with many points on the list.

23. As a society, the wearing of masks is stressed more forcefully than basic hygiene and social distancing.

All else aside, the emphasis on masking makes sense to me from a logistics perspective.

It's not like hygiene and social distancing haven't been mentioned. I mean social distancing is a mantra that's saturated internet and entertainment culture for months now.

Masks (even cloth ones) multiply the effectiveness of social distancing, in an important scenario I think many people find unintuitive: asymptomatic spreading.

If I recall correctly, people infected with SARS-CoV-2 tend to be most contagious from about 2 days before symptoms first appear, to 1 day after. (They're contagious longer than that, but I believe that range was the peak for viral shedding.)

So the scenario masks are helping is the very one that people don't have an intuitive grasp of: "I feel fine, but I'm spreading the virus to people I interact with."

It's fine to tell people to practice hygiene and maintain social distancing, but there's no visual cue for someone who failed to sanitize their hands, and it's all too easy to end up pressed closer to people than one had intended when standing in lines, etc.

Since we don't know who is an asymptomatic spreader, the lack of a mask is a visual cue that social distancing from the unmasked person is especially important.

And logistically, because of its visibility, masking is something that in practical terms is easy to mandate (like wearing seatbelts.)

So the emphasis on it doesn't surprise me at all. (And it really does improve the effectiveness of social distancing in the crucial asymptomatic spreader case.)

How many of you have seen people out and about wearing a mask only covering their mouth, and not their nose? I remember the Chuck Schumer flub being posted here, but personally I've seen it A LOT, like too many to count. 90% of my sightings have been employees of a business that requires them to wear a mask.

Additionally, the people who opt out of wearing masks are overwhelmingly kids and not 'muruca no-maskers.

I'm still very limited in my outings. The bank, Publix or Ingles for groceries, and Walmart for general merch, and that's IT. Bank happens once or twice a month. Groceries and Walmart is back to a weekly thing, but I always make a list, I stick to it like gospel, and I get the fuck outta there ASAP. At walmart is where I see the worst mask offenders. Not a large black community up where I live, but the few I do see usually don't have a mask.  ::) The others tend to be white women around 50-65 who actually DO wear a mask, but wear it improperly with their nose exposed like you said.

Do masks work? YES. There is no argument. China deals with this shit regularly, and they've gotten used to how to do it. If it didn't work, they wouldn't do it. Many tend to wear masks even when there ISN'T an outbreak. Even in the US. There's a decent sized Chinese and Vietnamese community in Chamblee GA, a suburb on the NE side of the Atlanta perimeter. Back before the shit hit the fan with Sars2, I used to see plenty of those folks wearing surgical masks when out and about around there. And yeah, it doesn't stop you from getting ANYTHING AT ALL, because it isn't a self contained breathing aparatus. But it does inhibit virus transmission SOME and slow the spread, which is what herd immunity accomplishes as well.

Quadz - agreed mostly, but I hate the word "mandate". We need to stress personal responsibility, common sense and empathy to encourage an improvement in our culture that yields people wanting to wear a mask voluntarily, not by force imo.

Haunted - yeah ive seen PLENTY of people with masks not covering their nose. Plenty at the local supermarkets in Georgia and some here in Bradenton.

Foc - Yeah I try to kill as many birds with one stone as possible while going out. Which is pretty easy for me as a person, lol, since while I interact with people well I get sick of them quickly. I certainly hope we don't get to the point where they deem it appropriate to wear masks at all times. There's no telling what it could do to your immune system long term if you started young, in regard to antibody acquisition/development.

To clarify, in that paragraph I was adopting the perspective of 'things that are easy for the government to do', as in, they only have so many levers they can pull, so it doesn't surprise me they'd focus on masking.

As to my own views on enforcement - I struggle with it from a perspective of individual liberty.

If cloth masks worked the other way around, and protected the wearer, then it would be easy: Let the wearer assume the risk of masking or not.

Unfortunately, since cloth masks don't protect the wearer, but help protect others from being infected BY the wearer, then we seem to intrude on the classic case of, "The right to swing my fist ends where the other man's nose begins."

If an infected person coughs on me, then it's MY liberties being violated. And because of asymptomatic spreading, we don't know who is infected - it's just a probability cloud.

So it's a tough one to reason about, from an individual liberty perspective, at least for me.

-

So it's a tough one to reason about, from an individual liberty perspective, at least for me.

And this is where some compromise of personal beliefs would mean all the difference. I don't want someone telling me, "You WILL do this." either, but in certain cases it is beneficial and completely rational to view things from a collective point of view. It's still entirely in the spirit of being rational and objective because you can tick more boxes in the PRO's column than the CON's column.

These were obviously put into motion before our lives were impacted by coronavirus coming from bats, but...

..these are now in circulation. Someone I know posted a picture holding one, and I had never heard of it so I googled.

This article is spreading fast.

It sounds like this affects negative results as well, so people who are actually positive are being counted as negative.

It seems like further investigation is in order to see what is causing this.

Oh I'm sure it works both ways. Imagine when drive thrus first started and people abruptly left the line. Everyone's order after them is wrong, but not wrong in the same way.

I'm just posting articles as I stumble across them. A lot of them may appear to cast skepticism of the virus but to me it is the government's handling of such that warrants a closer look.
