How to setup Lan Coop server with more than 4 player Limit?
«

Hello Gentlemen,
I have 6 PCs networked together in one cramped room. Calling it a Lan party I guess
.
Well I decided to reinstall quake 2 (with patch 3.24) and play some good old coop through the vanilla and expansion packs.
However no matter what I try, I can only get a coop player limit of 4. How does one host a server with more than a four player limit? I have seen online servers hosting coop with 8-12 players. Help please.
Thank You Gentlemen,

I'm not sure if our tastyspleen coop game was modded years ago, but it does seem to support
maxclients 8
.
The source code should be here:
https://github.com/tastyspleen/r1q2-tsmod/tree/tsmod/game
(Just the "game" directory, you don't need the whole r1q2 part. Also: I believe the branch will be "tsmod", not "master".)
Separately, Maraakate has developed a much-improved coop mod for Q2:
http://forum.tastyspleen.net/quake/index.php?topic=22264.msg223967#msg223967
(I'm unclear on the details of how it's tied to something called "Q2DOS", however.)
So I don't know how difficult it is to get that up and running, but from what I've seen over at the "maracoop" server, he's made improvements and smoothed out a lot of rough edges in the default Q2 coop experience.

Hi, thanks for you reply.
Forgive my ignorance please; what do I have to do with the "game" folder from:
https://github.com/tastyspleen/r1q2-tsmod/tree/tsmod/game
???
Do I have to put it somewhere in my quake2 directory? I do not know what to do. A little more help please.
Thank You,

DM server is fucked. 2 point blank rockets from spawn and lava damage and player survived? WTF?" Also someone has fucked with the spawn points, every single time no matter how big the map you spawn right in front of the person who killed you last
