When does "smack talk" go too far?

I... and PLENTY of other people on the Vanilla and DM servers, have had to listen to Hemroyd{A2W}'s trademark quips about "hackin phaggs" for YEARS now. He's a fuckin' knucklehead nincompoop, I get it. A lot of the time, he's just having fun and poking at people. But occasionally (and he'll claim this isn't true), he's seriously calling certain people cheaters. He's done it to me. And usually I make fun of him, say something nasty, or pretend he's telling the truth just to troll him.

But after YEARS... yes, YEARS of this shit, when is enough enough? I was playing on the Vanilla server earlier with maybe 6 or 7 people total. He was there. He starts in with his "you chaeting phagg" routine, and in a very short time, it's just me and Trump2020. Maybe he's claiming he's just "having fun", but lets face it, we all know it, these servers aren't populated by the brightest crayons in the box. Some of these fuckin' people actually believe the shit he spews. And that's my issue with it. He seems to be driving people off the server with that kind of talk.

I dunno what to suggest about it. I don't really wanna ask for him to be muted. That'd be kind of a bitch move since sometimes he IS just joking. But ask any comedian, there's nothing less funny than a joke that everyones already heard 40 thousand times before. Maybe just have an admin simply ASK him to stop accusing everyone of cheating all the time? That would be my suggestion.

Thing is... I realize this guy is usually just being a parody of himself, kinda like Naked Guy with his trademark "I'm not gay" comments. But today, and on a few other occasions, his routine seemed to convince others to join him in leaving the server.

Let's make one thing perfectly fuckin' clear:

I DON'T CHEAT.

I'd have to give a fuck in order to start cheating. I DON'T. Don't care if I win, don't care if I lose, don't care WHO I lose to, it doesn't matter. It's just a video game, and I have more than enough shit in my real life to feel good about that I don't need to hinge my ego on some bullshit that happens online in a video game. Not everyone around here has the same attitude though.... not gonna mention names, but I think they know who the fuck they are. *waves*

But I'd feel kinda shitty if he got a mute because of this. I'll certainly admit, I say some fucked up things on the servers quite a bit. Usually I'm joking, but sometimes I'm not. As far as I know, my in-game chat habits have never been a headache enough to be a topic of administrative discussion around here. (Or maybe they have, I dunno.)

On the other hand, this guy plays religiously every damned day for MANY HOURS per day. You can't simply avoid him. And we're all aware of his trademark hack accusing he's done since the dawn of time. I dunno, but today it just finally got to me. Like I told him today, "Either STFU, or leave! Or demo me and prove it, but above all, just SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

It would be easy enough just to add a line to my r1q2 config to /ignore him. But I've found that if you ignore someone and then attempt a "goto" while on one server to see who's on the other servers, if that ignored person happens to be on any server, that server will not show up because that persons name (the banned text) is in the same line of text with it. And like I said, he's ALWAYS on. If I add him via /ignore to my config, I'll never be able to see who's on DM half the fucking day anymore.

Unfortunately I don't have that ability with WallFly (I'd have to do a server-side Q2 mod.)


Q2Admin does provide word or phrase banning, but it applies to the whole server, not just per-IP.


Could perhaps try muting some of his catch phrases, like "cheatin phagg" or whatever it is.

Well yeah. But like I said, I've trolled Hemroyd in the past saying that I do cheat and doing the ole typing double quote marks in the console to generate a Q2admin speedhack message. Totally NOT helping matters, I know, but sometimes it's funny to wind people up with that trick if they've never seen it before.

Just wanted to make it clear that in spite of any trolling I may have done at any point, NO, I do NOT actually cheat.

He (or anybody else) has never really bothered me with talk like that. The only time I care if someone says I'm cheating, hacking, or whatever, is if an admin gets involved (or someone that can actually do something about my 'cheating'), and seems to want to take action. I kinda think people like him add personality to the game. There are people in game that are caricatures of sorts (like Hemroyd). They're not the type to ever actually get involved in/with the community (join the forums, interact here, etc.), so it's unlikely anyone is ever going to get to know them on a personal level. I kinda see it as them adding flavor to the game.

I'm assuming that it's a sure thing. I'm sure Quadz checked the logs when I first mentioned it. He can see how Hemroyd piped up with shit about "Focalor cheats, lets go somewhere else." (not word for word, but something similar), and then him and 2 or 3 other people immediately went to DM. It's not like he's really got regular people he always wanders around with. There's a couple of people he 1v1's once in a while I think, but the others who left with him were not those people.

Technically, shit with flies on it has a "flavor" to it, but who the fuck wants to eat it every day?

I'm not trying to get him muted. I'm not trying to change anything about him other than his childish constant hacks accusing which seems to be supporting others misguided beliefs that people on the servers are probably cheating, which seems to also be helping them make the decision to leave the server.

Ah, I understand. I thought you were saying that just his smack talk was turning people away. I didn't understand that he was actually encouraging people to leave, and it was because he apparently had them also believing that you were cheating (if he even actually believes that). Yeah, I suppose that's much more problematic than someone merely saying annoying things that one could simply ignore with a little effort (which is what it initially sounded like to me).
