Quake 2 Duel Tournament Announced at this years' Quakecon

The ruleset wasn't up to the competitive scene's standards and the event was BYOC-only, making the tournament not worth competing in unless you wanted an ez payday.

I'm glad David went though. He got that kick ass trophy which has invulnerability and quad damage on the same stand.

I also wonder the SAME THING.

The only REAL q2 player there was David, the rest were a bunch of casual q3 players, not even Rix is a real q2 player despite his great experience in quakecons. If I lived close by, I would have made an effort to go there, it would be something unforgettable for me, even if I were destroyed by David. Indeed, it would have been an honor to play against him.

I private messaged quakecon's facebook page in April and they replied "Sorry you feel that way *****, thanks for your input!"

11 people competed for a 15k prize pool? Or did I look at the wrong thing. I saw 11 participants, 1st 10k 2nd 3k 3rd 2k....... Holy crap. Poor quake 2. Boy I feel like it would've been better for the q2 community if this event had been planned differently.

Over the years, I've formed the impression that id Software regards Q2 as something of a minor bump on the road to Q3A.

Interviews with Tim Willits et al. seem to go something like this:

  Q1: The very first quake! The one that started it all! True 3D! Mouselook hype!

  Q2: …uh, we added a railgun…

  Q3A: We FINALLY PERFECTED ONLINE FPS MULTIPLAYER!!1!!

Dude, this sucks! Already imagined the kind of attention that is the quaker for its fans of old games of the company. Really, fuck off quakecon.

That's what I said no ESReality. It seems that Q2 has always been left out in the attentions and even respect of the very company that did it.

I remember that the game was made at the time with some urgency to quickly get the same success soon after Q1. Perhaps more for financial interests due to the enormous success of the previous title (Q2 was not even created initially to be a direct continuation of Q1, later only adopted the same name of quake), and was released somewhat unfinished just to go to store shelves before Christmas 1997.

I'll let me know if this "Rix" who participated in this year's tournament is not the same Rix who is American and pro-player of Q1.
