Yeah it would've been. Oh well. I already won more than 10k from betting on the final four and just got a crazy nice grill for half the price. Stealing another 10k by giving all these guys a beat down on LAN wouldn't seem right morally. I can only assume that this decision was made to prevent 70 - -3 losses to me. Unfortunately playboy, adrenaline, naymlis and pyr3x had to endure the backlash as well. Sorry guys.

I would urge anyone wanting to go to, well, go. Even if you didn't get into the BYOC, there are the first-come-first-serve stations that can be signed up for. My understand is that once you're signed up, some accommodation will be made to match your usage time with your bracket match. Also, side tourneys at the hotel/my place. :D It's huge that we're getting this prize pool, and I want to see as many familiar faces in the running as possible.

Yeah they'll allow sign-ups to use designated setups for all people that are first-come-first serve. And yeah, it would be cool to meet all of y'all and others in person and have a great time. BUT, and I can't speak for everyone else, my main purpose of attending would be kicking ass against who I consider are the top players in q2. Not giving a chance for byoc and relying on a first-come-first-serve station discourages this from happening. I'm confident that i'd place despite who shows up, but what if I go and no one else I really want to play shows up? What if Tim can't even compete in this tourney from scheduling complications with quake champions? If I go all the way to texas it's to kick ass on lan against all these losers that think they're good(naymlis, adrenaline, pyr3x, ah!, to name a few). I'd seriously and legitimately enjoy meeting y'all and spending time with ya, but that's how it is for me. I don't care about the 10k.

For us to have a chance to bring out the real vets, we would need a true esports event with a ruleset that is tailored to the vets' needs. I can't picture Scooby or DaHanG wasting their time with this event, even though they could easily win the 10k prize if they wanted to show up.

I am glad though that tournament organizers have at least found some sort of way to allow non-BYOC registrants to enter this Q2 duel tournament.

On a side note, however, another issue that a non-BYOC player will deal with is that he will have almost no reason to bring his own PC to the event, since he would have no safe place to store it at the event. The BYOC room is safer than any room in the hotel. Thus he would be screwed over for any side events that would occur, such as random FFA in the BYOC or the side event that Jehar mentioned.

Anyway, I hope people who go have fun!

:bravo: Awesome to hear there's ways into the Quake 2 duel tournament for non-BYOC. I'm going to QuakeCon but I'm not joining the tourney because not good.  That being said excited to see the Q2 duelers have at it. $10000 worth of motivation for something we all love doing already?! There's gonna be some intensity. I'm predicting intensity.  :afro:

I was not able to get a BYOC seat but are you sure that those who did not get a BYOC seat can still compete ? am thinking of joining the tournament but i dont want to waste so much money on plane ticket and accomodations just to not be able to play there ( a ticket to USA costs a shit-load of money from Tunisia, Visa is so freaking hard to get too....since i live in an arab country....sad but true )

Damn i didnt post in here since ages lol

Community competitions reach new heights at QuakeCon 2017!
By cwizardApril 12, 2017

As we teased in our first QuakeCon Update, we’re bringing a new focus to community competitions for our attendees this year with more than $50,000 in prizes!  Here’s a first-look at our competitions programming.
First, we have a strong line up from the id catalog:

    QUAKE II, 20th Anniversary Duel – $10,000
    QUAKE LIVE 4v4 CTF – $10,000
Battle of the BYOC: DOOM 2v2 Clan Arena – $7,000
The Elder Scrolls: Legends – $5,000
    QUAKE Duel – $5,000
RAGE Road Rage FFA – $5,000

We’ll also have fun competitions in the latest entry of the QUAKE franchise to liven up Friday and Saturday night, and an esports qualifier that we’ll have more details on soon.

Good news for the TDM community. Perhaps we have a reason to play some more again.

This QUAKE Duel - $5,000... is mean netquake(old Q1)?? And who is incoming to q2 duel tournament? I hear that David will to play it!

I learned that DM/FFA is very different from Duels which I practically never play. Sigh.

11 people competed for a 15k prize pool? Or did I look at the wrong thing. I saw 11 participants, 1st 10k 2nd 3k 3rd 2k....... Holy crap. Poor quake 2. Boy I feel like it would've been better for the q2 community if this event had been planned differently.

1st Place: $5K + awesome trophy
2nd Place: $3K
3rd Place: $2K

Definitely wish there were more people but it was still a blast and glad we had an official tourney w/ prize money involved in the first place. :righteous:
