What you have found is a D-Day server. D-Day is a mod of Quake 2 that changes the scenario from Stroggs vs Troopers to a WWII D-Day simulation. That particular server doesn't support HTTP downloads so clients like R1Q2 would offer no advantage for obtaining the files.Enabling downloading, the server will provide them via UDP download, a much slower method than HTTP but that's the original protocol of the Quake 2 multiplayer game. Welcome to 1996.I recommend you go to their web server and read about their mod and download the supporting files here: http://www.ddaychile.com/It looks like this might be the installer for the files for this mod but I have not tested it.http://www.moddb.com/mods/ddaynormandy/downloads/dday-normandy-41-installer
A lot of people who play FFA like to use different player models. Penguins, cows, Homer Simpson, naked strippers, Spongebob Squarepants, etc etc. Personally, I HATE that shit. I hate always having to wait to download everyone's stupid little models and all the stupid little skins they wanna use with them. I also hate just looking at them. Most of them are really stupid looking and make stupid noises. I prefer to see everyone using the original stock game models. And fortunately, nobody HAS to be forcibly subjected to downloading and looking at everyones stupid player models thanks to a handy little setting.Open the game. Go to Multiplayer. Go to Player Setup. Go to Download Options. You should see something like this:If you set "allow downloading" to NO, then you'll never be able to download ANYTHING. No maps, no mod files, etc. Probably not a good idea to set that to NO or you won't be able to download anything you might need to connect and start playing."Maps", yes, you want to be able to download maps, obviously. Because if the server switches to a map you don't have, you won't be able to play."Player models" and "models" are two different things. Player models are, duh, player models. But models are things like guns and ammo and other unique items for different mods you might ever play. For example, the Phalanx is a gun that is used with the Xatrix mod. It doesn't come with the full version of Quake2, and when you play Xatrix for the first time, you'll need to download that weapon.Sounds too. Weapons that didn't originally come with Q2 have their own sounds for firing and explosions. Maps their have own sounds as well.
