Quake2 Unlagged Netcode (by Razor's Server)!

Earlier this year, the swedish q2 player, Razor(u all already know him) went up a opentdm of server-test, with its new unlagged code for q2 that he is programming. My friend Anarchy(Peter) and I went there to play under conditions of much lag. I had 500kb radio connection at the time, horrible and unstable, I was with 300ms latency! :(

Strange things happened in the game, the demo is posted in anr's POV(in ztn2dm3). Especially when I was running to lift that goes to the SSG, my player model was gone from his sight and yet he threw behind where I've really had passed and still he would kill me. Even when I had already entered the elevator, but actually I had died and fact only died when I had already entered the elevator and up! A large delay between the information!

Very strange, I had seen it before in QuakeLive but in q2 was a novelty. Watch the demo and do your analysis!!

if it ain't broke don't fix it lol. kidding aside, i tend to think if a DEV cracked the code to having no lag in any video game, they would have found it by now. it think razor is reaching to be a pioneer in that area. it takes more than 1 person to code a game with such properties. he needs a team behind him if that ambition would ever be realized. just my 2 cents. quadz would know infinitly more about such matters

Yes, I believe it is virtually impossible is only one person working on it and have good results in short time. Working with q2 netcode should not be easy ...

Nobody cares about Razor here.

I only mention it, but in fact it is mostly about the test with netcode that he's doing.

Really, was strange!!

This is actually a plugin that injects the anti-lag technology around the q2, not is a mod only. This plugin installs the anti-lag in any mod.
It may not be a 100% perfect design, but it is Really anda great valiosidade. Even the guys QW has, because someone today never thought about it for q2 ???

Where's the source code?

I wouldn't put anything on my computer from such a source as this without thoroughly reviewing and compiling the code myself.

This netcode has so much potential.

The story is; a tdm server was set up some time in 2015 using this netcode, and it was the real deal. Hitscan weapons felt like you were on a LAN server, so chaingun, machinegun, ssg, sg, and rail were all so, so much easier to aim with. When people played on it, they loved it, and I mean really, really loved it. Even pro players like Damiah said the server was better than anything else he's ever played on. However, it was never released. As far as I can tell, the code was based off of this, and it was exactly what you'd expect; this exact netcode, just put into Q2.

What a shame nobody else really cared enough to look more into it. It would have revolutionized the way that competitive (and even casual) Q2 is played.

I have attached a video that properly demonstrates how exactly this worked, you really had to play on it to believe it. It was very surreal to be so accurate with hitscan weapons against people playing in Europe. The truth is, nobody up until that point or any point after had the foresight to fix Quake 2's god-awful netcode. Razor cracked the code of ignoring latency for hitscan weapons and put it up for everybody to play with and test with their own very eyes and fingers in an OpenTDM environment (because this worked with every mod and that's all that Euros played).

Now imagine somebody posts about said revolutionary thing on a forum filled with people who hate you, and in a hilariously prideful display of self-flagellation, everybody completely writes off this thing that would only help them and make the game more enjoyable for everybody as something "nobody cares about".

Pure comedy! Life is really funny sometimes, isn't it? It's a good thing our priorities for this game are in the right place, like making the rocket model look like a dick and editing the explosion to make a fart sound.

The Tastyspleen community, and more importantly, Quadz himself in his long suffering graciousness, gave that little shit far more than a reasonable amount of opportunities to be a normal and productive member of said community. He chose to cheat and break the rules over and over and over again. He was NOT a victim, the rest of the community was a victim of his behavior for as long as it lasted. And it lasted a LONG TIME.

He did two things: #1, he cheated, and that made everyone not like him. #2, he was one of these self-absorbed players with "short man's syndrome", just another chest-beating egotistical newbie out to prove that he was better than everyone. That shit is obnoxious as hell. No one wants to hang around someone like that. Those two things turned everyone against him. He did it to himself.

It's somewhat sad, because when I first got here and was trying to grow clan EoM, [EoM]Processor and I hung out with razor fairly often on the EoM server just messing around and chatting. When he wasn't cheating or being an obnoxious shit-talker, he was fun and easy to get along with. I personally talked to him on more than one occasion trying to encourage him to stop his cheating and obnoxious shit-talk so that more people in the community would be accepting of him. He chose not to listen... to me, and several others.

Life is full of lessons, kid. There is no helping those who won't be helped.

lol relax, I'd never expect you to actually program something like that anyway. Plus I've wasted hours creating jump maps that took 15+ minutes to complete so I'm not much better. :D

It's fun to look back at what could have been and this is just one of them. The premise of eliminating latency in this game was completely overshadowed by the fact that Razor did it and you just proved that point. How many home/away games in TDM could have just been a complete non-factor if we didn't have to worry about hitscan latency?

This is definitely something to at least look into, if you find it annoying having to lead shots in this game.
