R1Q2 and Steam

I am looking to get back into Q2.  I downloaded Q2 from Steam.  It appears I need the anticheat developed R1Q2 to play on tastyspleen.  Has any one been able to use that with the Steam version. Thanks!

I actually found my old Quake II install CD from the late 90's.  I couldn't find any information regarding Steam and R1Q2 so I installed the original CD version and the 3.20 update.  I have R1Q2 installed but I have a few problems.  First, I don't think the R1Q2updater.exe is working.  I run it from the command line as administrator and nothing happens.  Secondly, I have been able to connect to the DM2 server about half the time before QII crashes to the desktop.  I can connect to the DM server but I crash to the desktop within a few seconds.  B8012 in the version of R1Q2 I am running.  I do have the anticheat.dll in my Quake 2 directory.

But FYI, the following is what led to anticheat being forced on your IP.

A player posted the following to IRC:

"there is a fake voltzow on dm right now botting"

I don't know if you were botting or not. But I saw you were indeed using the "voltzow" playername, so I had WallFly change your name to "voltzow-spoofer" and forced AC for good measure.

Please don't spoof other player's names.

The b8012 version of r1q2 is the last one released. The R1q2 updater is broken. R1ch went another direction with his web site and the updater wasn't redirected.

I can connect to the DM server installing the version you posted above but R1Q2 crashes about 5 to 10 seconds after joining.  Is there another client that will allow me to use anticheat?  I know it is not a firewall/anti-virus setting.  I have disabled both of those to remove them from the equation.  Any help you can provide is much appreciated.  I am running Windows 10 and haven't changed anything in terms of the default config generated by the link above.  I downloaded the anticheat.dll from the antiche.at website as well.

Not sure how compatible AC is with Windows 10. I've removed the AC requirement for now, as no evidence was presented for the botting claim. (As I'd mentioned earlier, I forced AC for good measure when I saw the name-spoofing.)

Using AC with R1Q2 on Windows 8 / 10 will cause the client to crash.

The q2s R1Q2 installer won't install anticheat.dll if it detects that your operating system is beyond Windows 7 for this reason.
