I just got back from a saturday afternoon showing, and overall, i am giving this movie a 7.5 /10

The newcomers were overacting in some scenes and the sheer forced noobness of some of the comedic attempts left a negative impression...

The black guy Fin, was just alright in my opinion, but the true new star is that girl Rey. She stole the show in my opinion.

The story was just alright, but they give no explanation on who that giant creature supreme being of the first order is or how he came about. Looks like Luke failed at establishing a Jedi Order and now his protege and nephew is out to avenge darth vader .... Quiet similar and dull in comparison to yoda's failures.. Also, it looks like Rey is Luke's daughter from some bastardization lol? Thats the only explanation i can gather with her power and her reason for going to visit him at the end all by herself...

Luke looks like a noob at the end, his face filled with misery and anguish. How the hell did the resistance not clamp down on the dark side after the defeat of vader and the sith? Did they just celebrate and turn their back on everything? And why isn't princess leia a jedi by now, i thought the force was strong with the bitch lmao?

Han Solo's death was so obvious when he started down that bridge to meet his newb son in the middle.. you can even see harrison ford give a slight glance like, ok nows the time for me to die... I guess in the star wars universe, a father can switch from the darkside back to the light if his son is frying, but a son cannot switch back to the light because his dad asks him to.

I guess it makes sense, children often resent their parents.

There was a lot less cgi than i had anticipated, and the fight scenes were all eh, more like forced in their technique by the movies prior. I had no severe buyin to most of these scenes, with the exception of Rey's fight with kylo ren.

I actually wanted the black guy fin to die at the end, it would have been a better ending, and i was saddened when they found his heartbeat, more of his junk i guess in the next movie. Chewbacca was alright, and Han's scenes saved us from a moving going no where.

Why the hell does kylo ren want to find the most powerful jedi left alive anyway? Wouldn't you want him to stay away in hiding or leave you alone? Don't you think Luke would kill you if you tried to attack his ass? rofl?

I guess in the end, there were no real true hard set secrets left to wait in anticipation for. Kylo Ren took off his mask, Han died, they destroyed that new first order multiplanet weapon, r2d2 came back alive some how, and the black guy fin is still alive. What on earth am i supposed to be yearning for in the next movie? Luke's explanation to where he has been? Is that the best they can do? Gtfo......

Luke better go ape shit on that alien supreme leader in the next movie... i want more scenes like yoda's fight with the sith lord, or aniken and obi wan vs duku, scenes like that that show off the incredible powers and scenes that can only be found in the star wars universe. they failed at generating more mystery, and that is why my rating stands at 7.5/10, it was ok, i liked it,  but not the best.

I enjoyed the movie--saw it this afternoon with some family and friends--but I wasn't expecting much going in. So one way to look at it is that it pleasantly exceeded my rather low expectations.

It seemed to me at its core a rehash of the first movie (i.e. from 1977.) Right down to having to find the weakness in the new 'Death Star 3.0' and having the rebel base in jeopardy and about to be fired upon on a countdown. And the main protagonist living on a desert planet with mysterious parentage. Droid companion with a secret message. Basically a redressing of the original plot.

Still, enjoyed it anyway.

My thoughts exactly. I began thinking that early in the film when the soccer ball droid found Hottie Jedi, but I still held out hope that it would've led into something more original as the movie progressed, but... then the giant super-duper death star made it's appearance and all hopes of that fled from sight as quickly as the Millenium Falcon made the Kessel Run which was 14 parsecs... or was it 12?

Kinda of the same opinion all around as you. I went into it with extremely low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised by how much it actually did NOT suck. I had expected the inclusion of some kind of self-lampooning character for the purpose of situating sprinklings of comedy here and there, but alas, no retarded Jar Jar's to be found, hooray. It appears they learned the lesson to be found there. I think they did a decent job of giving it the same overall feel as the previous Star Wars movies despite the absence of George Lucas.

The two main complaints I'd have about the film would be first and foremost, again, the ubiquitous recycling of plot from the original Episode IV film. And secondly, I was pretty displeased by how only marginally evil the bad guy was. We all remember seeing Episode IV for the first time and instantly knowing that Darth Vader was the shadow of fucking death incarnate. And then just in case blind people might've been watching the film, they gave him the thunderous voice of James Earl Jones. You don't get the feel that Kylo Ren is truly a fearsome villain. I suspect later he will become a hero, but it still doesn't negate the fact that this film lacks a good villain. And it means that obviously the writers are more concerned about setting up plot for sequels rather than making individual films that are good all on their own, and that's a truly piss-poor way to write any screenplay in my opinion. They're supposed to make you HATE the villain who has a change of heart to become a hero so that when he changes sides, it has more impact upon the audience. If in fact Kylo Ren does turn out to be a hero in the end, then it really won't surprise anyone will it?

I figured that once I had seen the new film, afterwards I would be left saying to myself, "Good God, look how they've managed to destroy and bastardize the most successful film franchise in history." But now that I have seen it... I don't feel that way. I'm not 100% crazy about it, but I'm not entirely regretting what the future may have in store for the story yet. I'm left feeling I'm still sitting on the fence about my verdict in regards to whether or not it was a good idea to continue the Star Wars story. Like I said, I'm not completely disappointed by the new film, and I'm pretty interested to see what comes next. But if I'm left withholding a verdict as to "good" or "bad" like this, then it doesn't bode well for the franchise, and they've quite obviously failed in their mission. What they wanted people to do was go apeshit crazy about how awesome the new film was. It was good, but it falls short of the mark I think they were aiming for. With as much time and money as they invested in this movie, they would've wanted a much stronger response to it. I think they'll still obviously sell assloads of tickets and turn a hefty profit, but probably not the sinfully obscene numbers they were hoping for.

I can only speculate where the story might go from here. And I'll say this: if the story goes the way that I suspect it will after seeing how the first installment paves the way for the next one... then all the disappointment we've been waiting to feel after seeing the first one will DEFINITELY be felt at the end of the second one. However, if they attempt something truly alien to the majority of people employed in Hollywood and utilize a little god damned originality in the script, then juuuuuuuuust maybe there's a slight chance that it won't totally suck.

So who is Rey? Where does she come from?

Did aniken cheat on his bride? Did obi wan knock a girl up before he evaporated in his fight with vader?

Did luke or lea have a bastard?


also, since when does a light saber call out to someone? The 1000 yr old alien told rey the light saber called to her specifically, and that it was luke's old light saber......

So she has to be part of the skywalker lineage right?
What about anikens step brothers and sisters that he left to go find his mother before she died? Are those step children hers?

I read an article that made a good point. What truly lacked in force awakens was a die hard villian. When star wars 4 debuted, you undeniably knew vader was evil and would kill you without hesitation.
