Action Quake 2 remake on Steam
« on: September 30, 2015, 09:05:54 AM »
Hey everyone Reaction (www.rq3.com) needs your support to get approved on Steam Greenlight. For those that aren't familiar with Reaction, it's a direct as possible port of Action Quake 2 to Quake 3 (ioQuake3) engine.

Always happy to give games like this the 'thumbs up'     Not that many good FPS games out there   :humm:  QII still beats everything hands down, but it'd be good to have a look at this.

There's a QIV mod that allows QII single player, too.  Never liked the QIV gameplay, but QIII was always multiplayer (and still is, I suppose) so it'll be good to see how your game flows on MP.  Good luck!   :headbang:

I was watching some of this footage. It does look a lot like AQ2:

The only thing I'm worried about is the netcode, because in Q3A I never liked playing online with a ping higher than 30ms.

Anyway, I voted yes.

The way I feel is that in all actuality, anything higher than 40ms is shit for any FPS (even with lag compensation -- distance-time derivation can only take you so far... no pun intended...)

Probably as a general rule of thumb, yes. Although for sure it probably depends on the game's engine and physics. My guess is that things like hitboxes and hitscan vs projectile weapons make a difference. I'm sure that is why Q2 is way more playable online than Netquake or Q3A are at higher pings.

I don't think that distance-time is the real problem, since the speed of light is fast enough (186,000 mph). The problem is how do you send data as fast as possible through a medium.
