Yo, quake2 players!
I'm here for disseminating the majority who may not know, an update on the default client of Quake2. It is simple, as the default client has always been, but it has several cool improvements. The patch has over 40 fixes and tweaks in the client, menus, console, and OpenGL renderer, etc. And above all, it reads ".cin" files (cinematics), for single-player lovers!!
Many people still only use r1q2, but nowadays there are new q2 clients as best like q2pro(europeans are using it nowadays) and now this new patch v3.24.

Using this new patch along with the Nocheat's openGL DLL, which is as best as the r1q2's openGL dll, you have all the new enhancements(bright sets, celshading...) and also READ cinematics.

"Quake II v3.24 Unofficial Patch (.exe version 3.2.4.2)
By Knightmare (knightmare66@yahoo.com)

This is a simple, no-frills patch that fixes bugs (including the nVidia 191.x driver
crash) and adds only meager tweaks aside from Ogg Vorbis support.  Intended for
Quake2 purists who have been using the woefully out of date version 3.20, it is not
intended to add new features or be an engine mod in its own right.

It is based on the 3.21 source released by John Carmack in December 2001, with code
by myself, Berserk, CDawg, Pat Aftermoon, Anthony Jacques, David M. Pochron, Dopefish, GuyP, Jitspoe,
MH, MrG, NeVo, Skuller, Riot, R1ch, Psychospaz, Pooy, Sul, and anybody else I forgot.

As this release is not made or supported by id Software or Activision, please don't
ask them for support with this.

You should back up the quake2.exe, ref_gl.dll, and ref_soft.dll files in your Quake2 folder
and the gamex86.dll files in your Quake2/baseq2, Quake2/ctf, Quake2/xatrix, and Quake2/rogue
folders before installing this.
This can be done simply by making a subfolder called "backup" or "old" and moving the
above files there.

To install, just extract this archive into your Quake2 folder. 

To hear Ogg Vorbis tracks ingame, rip the Q2 CD's audio tracks (2-11) to track02-track11.ogg
and put them in baseq2/music.  For the mission pack audio tracks, rip the Ground Zero CD's
audio tracks (2-11) to track12-track21.ogg.  Don't bother ripping the tracks from the
Reckoning CD, as they're a mix of the tracks on the Q2 and Ground Zero CDs.  Everything else
will be taken care of internally."

Not sure on the legality of calling it v3.24 whether you put "unofficial" in the name of it or not. I'd be extra careful and check on that before releasing it if I were him.

Also, any NoCheat renderer should be banned around these parts if you ask me.

the version # isn't trademarked, just the name Q2.  He just incremented the version # to say it's newer.

This unofficial 3.24 patch makes useful fixes and improvements to the original client, and I believe there's a place for it (especially when it comes to the single player game), but this isn't a client designed to replace something like R1Q2 which has added features such as asynchronous rendering,  HTTP downloading, improved networking protocol, DirectInput support and overall faster loading times.

Though I do agree that Q2PRO is a worthy successor when it comes to clients that focus on multiplayer improvements (such as R1Q2 / AprQ2).

For sure. Q2PRO is the best client to multiplayer nowdays, if this had support for ".cin" files, would be a complete client. But this Q2 v3.24 is really pretty good and fit single-player good!

Also, any NoCheat renderer should be banned around these parts if you ask me.

I can not see that the Nocheat render problems can cause, what do you mean by that?? I use NoCheat and even the Quake2.exe sometimes and I am not a cheater!

I had same symptoms -=[AZ]=- complained about. Message was "your session expired while posting". Cure was to log in via the LOGIN link via the top menu on the forum and log in there, checking the "always stay logged in" box. Client was Edge browser.

When I attempt to login from the main page it says session has expired every time. I have to go to the login page in order to sign in every time.
