Does pouring money into blighted areas really work.
« on: June 03, 2014, 05:41:29 AM »
Here is an article about revitalizing a high crime area by building a new shopping area there.
In this particular article they are talking about Pine Hills, everyone refers to it a Crime Hills.

http://www.mynews13.com/content/news/cfnews13/news/article.html/content/news/articles/cfn/2014/6/2/renderings_of_propos.html

I would love to see how often doing these sort of things actually work and how often they turn out to be a large waste of money.

The developer may be getting a chunk of federal money to build there.  No matter where the money comes from, I think it is a waste.
If some of the money is coming from my tax dollars, that upsets me more.

You cannot just put up some new shopping mall and make everything better.  The people have to change for real change to happen.

Thoughts ?

bet ya most f the criminals will be now hanging out in the mall. shoplifters, pickpockets, gangbangers at the food court.
And when you go to the comfort room your neighborhood drug dealer or some hooker will readily greet ya.

Hmm, after reading the subject line of this thread, this appears to be the PERFECT place to stick this. ;)

http://news.yahoo.com/billionaires-breakup-plan-chop-california-six-states-012144464.html

HA! HAhahahahahahaha. Ha! HAHA! Ho. Ho boy. Like,... try to be a little less transparent there, you greedy fucking shitbag. Yeah, divide California into 6 new states, GREAT IDEA (for HIM)! I guaran-fuckin-tee you that the main goal in doing that is for the people in the more affluent areas of the state to exclude themselves from having to pay for the failing social programs in the shithole urban warzone areas like Oakland. Which sounds like a swell idea if you're ONE of those affluent people not living in Oakland or some other shit stain of a ghetto. Problem is, these billionaire bastards just wanna cut those people out to make it easier to more thoroughly overdevelop their own areas. And when they do, I have no doubt in my mind that it'll be a mere 20 years before shit declines like it always does with the urban sprawl phenomenon. And in 50 years, the entire fucking state will be on the fast track to becoming ONE GIANT Oakland.

I dunno. I don't live in California (thank GOD), so maybe I don't know how shit works out there. And I didn't read the story, just the headline... don't have to. I smell the bullshit all over it.

"Proponents say the division would help create a more business-friendly environment, solve the state’s water issues, and ease traffic congestion."

Hilarious. I say those proponents are chock full of shit.

Apparently driving from the suburbs 30 miles inland to Los Angeles will take less time if we call the other place something else and let republicans have control of it. We won't fix the freeway or anything..

It will also magically make all of the water we use in southern california not come from northern california.

Business friendly is just their way of saying "friendlier to republicans and businesses who don't want to abide by any form of regulation and/or pay taxes".

This is another in a long line of stupidly transparent attempts made by people like the ones who live where I do (heavily white affluent republican) to break away from the rest of california (not heavily white affluent or republican) and still get to keep the beautiful land and all of the money to themselves while not having to deal with those evil democrats who control almost every elected office in the state and our state legislature because they were elected by our people to do so.

It's gerrymandering combined with seccessionism to a ridiculous degree and it shows how little regard these people have for representative democracy. They do terribly at the polls if they include Los Angeles and all of those brown people they treat like second class citizens, so they'd cut out their little rich section out of southern california so they can actually win an election.

God forbid they actually just represent the people that are here. They want to redefine "here" until it includes only the people who will vote for them.
