I didn't think the DM server had so many players that it would matter.

...maybe, but on a not so busy server like DM it's more likely that people will spawnkill because with just a handful of players there's not so much chaos which is perfect for 'pad loiterers'. I don't really mind having spawnprotect on or off on DM, but having that rotten Quad enabled is just...  :yuck:. I dunno, it aways seems to spoil a good game.

Although quad is on by default, you could always mymap -pu . . .

We could even try making that "sticky" I guess... so that if you mymap -pu, it stays off until someone mymap's +pu...

Just a thought . . .

[Edit: I've gone ahead and tried that... the +pu/-pu setting will be sticky now... let's see how that goes...]

Look everyone, Console and Panjoo are right about one thing, there is hardly ever anyone on the DM Server, but Panjoo you are completely wrong about how spawn camping works, you can only spawn camp when there are alot of players being fragged in the first place. If there is only a hand full of players on there just isn't enough respawning to make it worth while. You might be squaited at a pod for no telling how long before someone respawns in front of you. But I'm not here to correct you anyway, I just want to use this space to explane why I wanted it changed in the first place. 2 words, balance and missions.
And a mission is what I'm on right now, TO GET THAT SERVER FULL AGAIN !!!
In order for any DM server to be full it takes 4 levels of players, Veterans Lvl 3, Average Lvl 2, Noobies Lvl 1, and your occasional run of the mill highly trained Assassin Lvl 4. In order for all 4 or at least 3 of the 4 to be on there at the same time you have to have BALANCE. Let me tell you what I've seen first hand on DM and why I think it's the reason no one is on there.
Ok, you log on to DM, Ah there's 3 players on, Player1 has 19 frags, Player2 has 3 frags, and Player3 has -1 Frag. Player2 gets sick of having the crap beat out of him and logs off, Player3 sticks with it a little longer but finally gets tired of it and logs off, Player1 says darn, there's no one to shoot at, guess I'll log off. I'm sure at one time DM was alway's full of players, but the lack of balance insured it's demise by allowing the veterans and assassins to overtake the server. I've actually seen some of those same players that we're run off the DM do VERY WELL on other Tasty servers because of better balance. If DM would have had a better balance it would still be full today. If I'm playing against 12 or more players, I'll come in on the top 5 everytime, if I'm playing against 2 or 3 and one of them is Defiant or Optima, I can't hardly get a frag in edge wise, because there is no one at my rank playing, because there is NO BALANCE, all of them got tired of getting their buts kicked so they logged off. Oh and in case you we're wondering, I was ranked at 32 in the top 2% as Superior on CSports.net before it crapped out.
So how does balance keep the server full??? Let me explane.
When a server is full, a lesser can spawn camp if he has to in order to get in some frags, that will keep him interested enough to stay on, the greater now has more to shoot at because the lesser hasn't logged off. About Quads, The lesser grabs a quad, gets in a few frags, stays on. The greater has more to shoot at because the lesser hasn't logged off. Also you now have more missions because there are some professional spawn campers who are almost impossible to remove, it's up to you, the spawn camper hater to dig them out. Hate Quaders??? Hunt them and put them down before they can get their grubby mits on it.
Can't get in any frags because oh Joe controls the map, but what was that, oh Joe just respawned and I nailed him good :rocketright:, Again, and Again, and Again, Take that Joe !!!

Nice theory and I agree to some extent, but in time you'll see it doesn't work that way and will only drive new players off.

I seriously doubt there is going to be any real balance so long as some players are much more experienced than others. Turning off the 2 sec protection will not balance things out at all and will only make it worse for the players that need the protect-shit the most.
In your example the player with 19 frags will quite easily spawnkill the newer players on smaller maps like dm3, simply because the other two players die more often and because they don't move so well. Even when there are two equally matched players, the 'lesser' players will only become the spawnfodder because the better players know where to get the easiest frags.
Who do you think will complain more about being killed on the pad? The newer players or the experienced players? Yep, the newer players. I am sure that most of the not so skilled players will start whining and just log off after a few of those frags.

Okay, but then go ask newer players what they'd prefer; 1) being somewhat protected from dying on the pad, or 2) being able to (maybe) make one or two spawnfrags themselves.
But like I said I for one don't really mind, I'm just trying to look at it from the 'newbie's perspective because I still remember how it felt to be frequently spawnkilled when I was new to this game; it's very discouraging.

I prefer the standard game, but apprecaite anti-cheat measures and anti-spawn-kill measures such as spawn protection.  I have respect for players who don't spawn camp; but, understand that people will shoot players who just spawned because "it is part of the game".  Well, spawn protection helps discourage this and helps create a more fair playing field for those who don't do it to begin with.
