yea, well i downloaded some ra2 maps files in an exe file on the tasty download section. So long story short, it doesn't have any of the core maps. it has a bunch of map names i never seen before. where can i find a reliquary of the maps i need to play on the east ra2. (palace of brak) etc. hmm maybe i will try well of souls if they have it. if they do i will link them here in an edit so the downloads section can be copied and updated. (if console so desires, so he's not out of the loop)

Well my ping graph looks like a comb -- very spiky.

Were the spikes green or red?  (Actually I don't know what colors q2pro uses... so a screenshot would help.)

What is your cl_maxfps set to in Q2?

BTW, the trace from the server -> you looks reasonably clean & stable. This is a ping/trace at 60Hz for about 34000 packets:

When did you run that?    I forgot to point out that it usually is bad at night on the east coast but fine in the morning and early afternoon.   Also how is it only 9 hops?   I see about 15 hops to tastyspleen.net.    I think you ran that to my work ip.  Here's one I just ran from my home PC:

Q2pro only shows green on its ping graph.  cl_maxfps is 120   (remember q2pro does different stuff with cl_maxfps  I'm at a recommended setting with q2pro I think).

I'd recommend running a lengthy WinMTR to tastyspleen.net during your busy/lag times of day. WinMTR gathers more stats than a simple traceroute.

The evenings are peak usage times. Your ISP is obviously experiencing overload, as in too many people using too much of their bandwidth during peak usage hours. I get the same shit. Every single fucking day from about 4pm until after midnight, my connection turns to wet runny dogshit. You can call them and complain about it, but more than likely they'll tell you there's nothing they can do about it.

It also looks like you're being routed to Philly to WashingtonDC to Atlanta and then to Dallas. You could probably get a faster relay time just jumping straight from DC to Dallas (I think there's a main route between those two), but again, you're at the mercy of your ISP. You can call and complain about it, but I'd bet you my left nut they won't do jack shit about it no matter what you say to them.

So long story short... it AIN'T a problem with the servers. It's YOUR internet service provider.

Why the hesitation to reboot?  What's the big deal.  Takes 10 minutes and you can do it remotely -- right?  Why not try it.   I'm sure it will clear out a lot of garbage.  When's the last time it was rebooted?

Perhaps.  But shouldn't the servers be rebooted every now and again anyway.  What's the big deal about trying a reboot?  10 minutes and done remotely.

servers don't need a periodic reboot

and restarting the q2 ded server != reboot, only would take a few seconds to restart the quake2 ded server process

doesn't need it though, the server is running fine without issues... and so is the immediately surrounding network infrastructure

your problem is going to be either with your computer, your ISP, or an exchange point where your ISP switches off to another ISP

most likely your ISP very common problem for an ISP to oversell their network too much, and when everyone decides they want to torrent porn at the same time, it falls apart... could also be modem problems though, as I have seen problems with cheap ones getting flooded with too many small packets and causing CPU wait time for the hardware which can back log all traffic and cause really weird and terrible connection shit to happen
