Someone please explain clans and leagues to me ???

I've played Q2 for years, but never studied the clan or league stuff. I would like to have the oppertunity to mabey join one, but know nothing about how it works.

The tournament process depends on what mod you are playing really, but for a typical deathmatch tourney like NADML, NDML or UDML you start out by getting around 10 clans, these have to be filled with at least four members each. Then the league goes into round robin, every clan plays each other to determine who has the most points (each clan getting 1 point for each map won) and then the top 4 clans play a playoff round to determine the league champion.

A clan is a group of players with similar attitudes who share a name (Brothers of True Fragging = BTF, Devine, or POT).  Sometimes they share a common server, compete together, etc..  In some cases clans have strict rules on behavior and even pay $ to run a common server.  In other cases they are completely loose with many players not even knowing who the other clamates are.

The best part of a clan, in my opinion, is the common attitude.  If your clan has this, then you will share common goals such as having everyone scrimmage together weekly, run your own server, have your own web site, or even a clan movie or LAN party.  If you don't have a common attitude, you will find problems or a lack of energy in the clan.

I think of a clan as the video-game equivalent of a sports team.  Although some clans are pretty laid back and rarely play competitively.

There are a lot of acronyms in Q2.  You pick them up as you go along.

Clans exist for many reasons.  Some to be a tight team to dominate all competition.  Others are more social organizations with a common mindset or goall.

For example, Clan BTF(Brothers of True Fragging) exists more just to have a group of guys who like to play together.  We find the game is more fun when you know the gamer behind the game.  We like to meet as often is possible for LANs or hang out in irc and just shoot the poo.  For example, our clan is not based on skill in any form, but purely on your attitude towards gaming.  i think all members of BTF value all of the long term relationships with other members more then who is best in play.

i have always found clan membership to be a rewarding time.  i even have the same love for all of the tastyspleen community in the same way.  i feel like we are a large family.  Much like a very large clan.  i think in general people care about the growth and well being of each other.  That is one of the main things that has kept me in this game since day one.  More <3 then i could imagine or have found in any other game.
