why is it that spawn protect has been taken off of railz?

I see now you spawn with a rail gun, but there should at least be a 2 sec protect on.. console?

well, this is a simple answer.  You spawn with railgun, you rail me while you're under spawn proection.  i am defenceless.  It's not difficult to rail someone just after you spawn, i've done it countless times, try it out

yea I have tried it out and don't like it just like other *real railz players who I've asked...

imo, it should be put back to how it was before the changes.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how skill has anything to really do with this.  imo, if more people are complaining about the current settings, make it your duty to get them to come here, make an account and post their feedback.. that is the sole way that most things will be corrected.  That's the reason the server settings have been changed.. the people whom let their voices be heard recieved the requests they desired.  Just remember it's difficult to keep all you players happy.

I play rail only and it annoys me when I'm getting killed by someone who had spawn protection. I understand why the spawn protection would be taken off if you spawn with a rail gun. Seems only fair to me.

The other side of the coin is , I was railed 4 times in a row REspawning.  ( yesterday )

A 1 second protect would be ok. Then there's a chance to get moving.

Actually, I tried to turn on a 1 second spawn protect from day one, with the new mod.  I can verify that the cvar is set:

09:36:57 quadz: rcon client_protect
"client_protect" is "1"

However, the mod refuses to activate the protection.  Here's why, from the documentation:

// client_protect <value>:
//      Specifies the time (in seconds) that a player will have a "protect"
//      shell after respawning that is impervious to attack (default = 0).
//      This option is only available under regular DM mode.  Clients will
//      lose their "shell" before <value> seconds have expired if:
//              - Client weapon/power-up/MegaHealth/PowerShield pick-up.
//              - Client respawns with anything other than a blaster.
//              - Client shoots their blaster.
//              - Client used their hook, if available.
//              - Active in regular DM only (match_mode 0).

So I guess the mod writers thought along the same lines as Element and Bigwig.

It's not an open source mod, so... not much I can do.

man we need to build our own rail mod... would be cool to see one that would incorporate some of ra2's feature (i.e. having concomitantly, a ffa map with a bunch of small 1v1 maps)
