I still say the easiest way is with a reversal (right, then left with direction keys) while doing the double jump.  Works easy as shit for me anyway.

He is saying a right swing for the first jump and left swing for the second.  That's the way I learned it.
I think all left is more consistent though.

actually, after reread, he's not saying that... what he's saying sounds like what you do to circle to the mega light.
Ex, did you watch the demo? or are you guessing at what derv is explaining?

gl_swapinterval setting messes up that jump, according to quadz.  He said one way was fine and the other was "less forgiving"

Anyhow, just practice it alot and it will come.  I can't count how many hours were spent jumping around dm1 all alone figuring out jumps.

I tend to avoid using my right/left keys while DJ'ing forward over box/object because I get really inconsistent results.
Could be vsync related as I use 74fps/75hz, but I get popped straight up in the air sometimes instead of forward.

On any straight forward jump like this I try to set up player direction beforehand and then do anything direction related with mousing after I've initiated the first jump.

On something like the jump off of the steps up to the rocket packs out by the rail pool on dm1, I'll do the same but hold the direction toward the object Im jumping off of, while also holding forward.

Usually I either do a slight mouse turn left plus left strafe or only left strafe before the dj. Those too feel the easiest and best way to do it, for me, especially when entering mega health room from water arena.

right or left side doesn't make it easier or harder. the key factor in facilitating this jump is when you input strafe(i.e.: before jump, after jump, etc.)... specifically for that one, you want to hit left or strafe at the exact same time(or 1 frame before.. but essentially at the same time) that you make contact with the edge you touch for the 2nd part of the double.

this way you sort of bypass the first edge/small block and only manipulate strafe/circle physics for the important part. Since you started out with no strafe/a normal jump, you'll have a better vertical angle achieving the height you want for the jump, despite lack of momentum.

it's whatever though I think every way to even do that jump is sort of easy tbh. back in like 2003 the way i described was the easiest for me though. I was just wondering why ex thought "a reversal" was better though, whatever that means. I think it's easy to do it backwards also but that doesn't sound right.
