Yeah, 4 wheels torquing vs 2 wheels torquing, (unless it's a straight 1/4 mile drag race) the AWD is gonna win most of the time, especially on a track like Laguna Seca. I've driven that track sooooo many times in sims that I'm pretty familiar with how it feels to drive it. Only with 2wd race cars though. Never driven a sim on it that offered an AWD car or mod. And so many of the turns roll through differing downhill slopes that it takes a lot of tinkering with the brake bias to get a car attacking the turns optimally. You also gotta keep the weight distribution pretty much pegged dead center in any car. Coming downhill into a turn always wants to shove you off the edge into the sand, so you gotta learn at what point to start braking when each turn comes up.

That's kind of a bummer for McLaren, cuz I'm pretty sure they've dumped a helluva lot more money into the development of the P1 than Porsche has. They've spent so much time and money making the car low and sleek to stick to the pavement, and the video proves everything. Looking at engine and power specs on paper makes it look like the P1 would pretty easily blow the doors off the 918. But you clearly saw how the P1 was almost overpowered and was getting squirrelly in the rear leaving tighter turns despite all the mechanical and electronic aero bullshit going on. And like I said about weight distribution on that track, it's gotta be centered. Not only is AWD on the Porsche gonna attack corners better of it's own accord, but having the hybrid shit (complete with those heavy-assed batteries) on the front axle is gonna balance the whole car front to rear better.

I remember pulling some amazing things off in the S-turn on Laguna Seca with the awd imports in Gran Tourismo 2.

Something like an audi TT with the turbo and their quattro awd worked wonders and you could hold a pretty central line and power out if you got in trouble.

I think the licensing test in that game that consistently screwed me every playthrough was trying to do a timed run of that corkscrew stretch of the course in a 1st gen Dodge Viper. The thing would slide off the track like it was a greased turd no matter how I set up for the corner.

The SECOND most difficult turn of the track, in my opinion. Once you learn what gear you gotta be in for the approach and at what point to start applying the brakes and jacking it down into 1st gear, it's just a matter of timing when you get it down to about 35-45mph before cutting into the turn. The number one hardest turn in my opinion is the very last one coming to the front stretch and finish line. That damn thing is so flat and deceptively tight. Coming into it the first several times, you always think you can casually roll through it still in 2nd (in a 4 speed trans race car), but there's no way. And even when you finally figure out that you HAVE to be in 1st and hitting the brakes hard, it can still be a real challenge to drive the right line through the first part of the turn so that you don't hit the inside wall at the apex or wander into the outside wall leaving the turn.

Laguna Seca, Limerock Park, and Road Atlanta would be my 3 favorite road courses to drive in sims.

Limerock features a few really long and gradually sweeping downhill turns that let you actually use some throttle through them, and the rest of the course has some nice tighter turns all with uphill to flat entrances. Not particularly challenging to drive, but the long sweeping turns are just fun as hell.

Road Atlanta has a cool downhill snaking slalom followed by a pair of different angled slightly uphill left turns that let you drift and skid. Fun stuff. Then it also has a stupid long drag race of a back stretch. Not many (if any) road courses have a stretch that long that really let you stand you on the gas that long and redline it.

The Hennessey HPE 750 (207 mph version) cost about 69,900 and the Hellcat 707 cost about 60,900.
That was surprisingly low IMO, I thought they would cost at least 80-90K.
At that price I may actually see one on the road. If I see one, I am going to challenge them with my truck.
