I've never thought that interpreting the actions of those who oppose your political ideals in a negative context as a rule was ever a decent approach to take with things like this. People would seemingly rather be more polarized though:

The majority of what you see on TV is staged and every person does this to some degree.

I witnessed this personally when Obama came to Kennedy Space Center for a televised presentation of his space initiative.
They sent 500-1000 people home who worked in the building where the event took place and everyone else was kept a 1/4 mile away.
He brought in 200 people for the audience, they probably had predetermined questions.  Out of the 200 people in the crowd only 2 people were actually from Kennedy Space Center.  They did broadcast it on the KSC network, so we were able to watch it.  It was definitely a made for tv event. 

Kennedy Space Center has been visited on different occasions by President Clinton, GW Bush, Laura Bush, Obama family, and President Obama.
Security was always tight but the public had far more access to everyone else except the Obamas.  When the Obama family came to watch a launch everyone was cleared in a large radius, which sucked because that area was the prime viewing area

What's going on there is the new laws enacted under the last 4 years.  There are "free speech zones" that the public is allowed to be in, and other areas can be cordoned off legally nowadays.  I'm guessing they are able to use that law to justify what Sgt. Dick just described.  Of course they could do that anyway as well, but now the door is wide open.

As for the topic:  Shitloads of people still without power and supplies, over 100 dead in U.S. alone (over 150 combined with Canada), and Mayor Bloomberg is pissy for having to cancel the N.Y. marathon due to public complaints.  The guy needs a reality check - when your state is fucked, you should cancel all things like that for a minute until things get back on track.

Anyway, hope things get better up there soon.

Wow.

Northern Ohio,  we had a week of constant rain and one night of really bad winds.

Tons of downed trees in the area,  strip malls with those phony facades lost alot of shingles.

Part of the caps on our roof had come off a few weeks back with some moderate winds, surprised they all hung on for this.

Plenty of people lost power,  ours only flickered for a bit.


Have family on the Jersey coast,  they are expected to get power back on sometime after next week.
My folks invited them to hang out here but they are going to stick it out.

Most of the beaches/boardwalks and places of interest along the coast we are used to visiting are totally trashed or wiped out altogether.
